Huge price increase

Went to town this morning to get oxygen and acetylene and had a big surprise. Had not bought any in about 18 months. Both had doubled in price.
I have done business there for years and he knocked off the price a bit for me. He said regulations on the tanks had got much worse and they were condemning more tanks that he thought were in good shape. He is changing his supplier soon and was hoping for the best.
No inflation in this economy. Yeah, right.

The current inflation issue is caused the government endorsement of the federal reserve near 0 % rate which has made capital available to increase consumption.

I switched to propane a few years ago, uses more oxygen, but oxygen is alot cheaper than gas, a little harder to get lit when windy but once its lit its fine, ive even welded and brazed with it, put 50 pounds in a hundred pound tank and seems to last long time, propane tip was about20 bucks but ill never go back.

I can't remember the size of my tanks. All I can tell you is they are the normal size most shops use for a general use set.

I was considering changing over to propane, thinking I could fill my own small propane tank from my 500 gallon tank. That way I would have a ready supply and wouldn't need to make a trip to town right in the middle of a job. Only problem is that my 500 gallon tank does not have the liquid withdrawal valve, and my propane supplier refuses to install one, citing insurance demands. No other explanation was given.

I can't imagine the regs on tanks have changed any... so I doubt the rate at which they've been condemned has changed any... so I call BS on that one.
As far as price goes.... it's going up all the time. IIRC, it's nearly 60 bucks for a large O2 here. Actually, it's the same price for the smaller ones too.
I find a 20# LP tank will usually last be for a year for all of my cutting/heating needs. Will probably burn 5 O2 or in that range. I haven't used acetylene in 10 years or more.
