I have a MX8, one year old and no problems from the Chinese gear boxes yet. Yep stickers on the boxes say Made in China.

(quoted from post at 18:48:08 05/23/14) The local Deere dealer has a used MX10 mower, comments welcome.

I ran an MX8 for 3 years in my custom tractor work business. It did a poor job of cutting in tall grass, left the center high. I bought a new Bushhog 3008 and the cut is near perfect. It has baffles under the deck and a blade design that makes the difference. The JD used a bolt to hold the stump jumpers on, I had one that always wanted to come loose and would fall off at the worst time. BH uses a castellated nut and cotter key...much better. BH is also a little shorter, front end of tractor is not in the air as much. Good thing about the JD, I sold it for what I paid for it after putting about 800 hours on it....

(quoted from post at 19:53:58 05/23/14) My MX8 is a pull behind and it cuts great even the
tall cut nice and level.

Maybe they changed the design, mine was a 2005 model 3pt. New blades had a 1/4" blunt edge, which didn't help, BH has a sharp edge.

Have had mine for 3 years now, ordered it new with the semi-mount setup. Works well, leaves a nice cut. After the first year I bought the extensions to space it back away from the tires (would catch the chain guards when in a dip). Main thing is to have enough HP to operate it and adjust speed to mowing conditions

I guess if you aren't concerned about acres per hour, go for it. My customers want the best cut at the best price, I run 5-7 mph with both mowers, Bush Hog cuts good, JD didn't. Why would I slow down to 3 mph just because the mower doesn't cut well at that speed? Same mower, same tractor, same speed, same conditions...JD doesn't cut it (parden the pun).

Ask the dealer if you can try it out...that would be the best way to decide.
