Yes, I hear you and agree entirely. When I bought my pc it came with windows 8. Hated it with a passion. Best advice I can give is to download "Classic Shell" and install it. Make's the interface familiar.

Stardock Start8 is an 8 dollar program online (you can get a "lesser" free version too)that makes windows 8 99.9% like windows 7. I did that and can't even tell I'm using windows 8 now.

Windows 8 really is just windows 7 with some flashy things thrown in the mix and it didn't work out. Once you take those away its good to go in my opinion.

I've been shopping for a new one, and the technician tells me that a few mouse clicks will make the current version 8 run like XP, right out of the box, with no downloads. No first hand experience, but this guy has always been straight with me in the past. He's gonna have it working to suit me before I take it home. . .

I used to be a bit of a nerd, helping relatives and neighbors with computers.

Worked with everything from the old Atari 400 and a very few Apples, I still remember some dos commands, through 98, XP, vista, 7. Several tablets now.

Somehow all my friends and relatives have avoided Windows 8 so far. Was really close this winter, relative had one picked out at Walmart, then the help says do you really want W8, we have a few older models with 7 in back at discount?

So he got a W7 machine yet.

Anyhow, I have yet to actually sit in front of a w8 machine and attempt to do anything.

I'm not complaining about that! It is Microsofts attempt to be everything to everyone, and work with a tablet or phone screen. But then it loses so much of the business usefulness of a mouse.they took too big of a swing at it......

I detest Windows. If I never see another hourglass it will be too soon for me.

Get an Apple.

Get a Mac.

Forget about Windows.

Never look back.

I went to Apple 3 years ago. It was an easier transition than learning the new Windows. I spent a lot of money on virus's,software issues, mechanical problems, and techs trying to keep my PC 's working over the years.

We now have 2 Macs ,2 iPads, and 2 iPhones. NO issues. They just work. No hacker virus's, no soft ware issues, no mechanical malfunctions. Any Tech issues were due to my lack of knowledge. Thanks the crew at the apple store and free classes it didn't cost anything to resolve.

A scheme by any other name is still a scheme,it's money, money, money, and how much they can screw you out of. I still have issues with pop up ads,and if we want to update our windows program. It's almost like buying a car, and then have to keep taking it back because they weren't finished with it when it left the factory, all at your expense and time. I can't understand why they don't leave things alone, with the exception of their scrounging for more money, day after day.Their money needs create greed,so the CEO's and Execs can get a big bonus.

Daughter was reading something about Yahoo e-mail, they weren't going to handle it anymore, must be selling it off to a different Co.
Which again boils down to money.

Computers were supposed to make things easier, but with all the new programs Microsoft comes out with you need a PHD to know how to operate them.Even then some PHDs go insane trying to figure it out.

I can tell you now, were not the only people with a computer who are Pizzed.
Just wait and be patient, they will come up with a new program to drive us all crazy, that will be looming on the horizon and make you pull your hair out. They better hurry up, I'm going bald from all their nonsense.

Agree 100%. Only problem with Apple is not everyone uses Apple so going between software programs can be tricky(Excel). I wouldn't trade my Mac book pro for anything. I do plan to buy an upgraded Microsoft office edition for my Mac soon though for my job. Other then that I havent had a virus, or any other problem yet.
