rear wheel adjustment oops

I snapped off a jack screw on my cast hub for our 4630. I remember hearing sometime ago about a pipe fit over the axle, notched back about 4 inches, to use as a press to get the bottom wedge out. If I can get it all apart I will set it at the desired width and never need to move it again so I may leave the broken jack bolt in place, but I will make sure it is flush against the back of the hub so the wedge can tighten up.

I posted that some years ago- no pic, but here"s the description: Find a pipe slightly larger dia than the axle, slightly longer. Pipe should be about quarter inch wall thickness. One end, weld a heavy steel plate. Other end, start a cut at the middle of the end, cut at 45 degree angle. ie...only half of that end is at a 45, the rest is at 90. Rotate the wheel so the movable wedge is on top, lay the pipe on so the 90 portion of the pipe contacts the wedge, and hit with BFH. Working alone, I welded nuts on the pipe so I can attach tarp straps to the wheel and pipe to hold the pipe in place.

This is why I wish I had a pic......you do not cut the pipe at 45 degrees, that would leave a pointed end. Start the cut half way across the diameter (in the middle), and cut at 45 degrees, leaving a half circle that is full length. That half circle makes contact with the wedge, which is also a half circle.

loosen the 3 cap screws on the inside of the hub ,other half of the hub assy put a hy jack in between the hitch and the rim. push out on the rim and hit the axel with 16 lb mall it will pop loose
