After looking at Larry's picture of his pond fish; thought I would post some pictures of a fishing trip Monday.

This camp is 25 miles from the closest road or electricity pole. Talk about living off the grid.

Was fishing next to a gas well in a bay just off the Gulf.

Got into a school of nice trout.

Caught the state limit of 25 in a little over 2 hours and was headed back home. Took almost as long to run the 50 miles from and back to the dock as it took to land the fish.

Maybe if I can get some land clearing done for my daughter with my tractor I can get a return trip in this Friday.
Love this time of year.

Headed out there next month on the 16th for 2 days of inshore fishing. Hope the trout are still biting. How are the redfish? I'll be staying down near Venice at a place called Cajun Fishing Adventures. Really looking forward to it as our daily limit on trout here in this part of Florida is 4 per day!

The trout will be biting if you can get to them. While they are a tad late this year because of the cool spring they have moved out of the marsh and have moved into the bays hunting more salinity.
The water temperature is in the mid to low 70's right now so they have turned on and it will last till the water temperature gets above mid 80's.

As long as the wind is down and you can get outside in the bays you can catch trout.

Redfish is a plan B this time of year in case the wind is blowing; unless you are hunting bull reds that live on the outside. I try not to chase bull reds as that is the breeding stock. Juvenile reds are still in the marsh so if the wind is blowing you can at least catch fish.

John, what kind of trout are those? Trout up here are a cold water fish. Seeing them in La kind of throws me for a loop.

These are what we call speckled trout (spotted seatrout)

While its name has trout in it; it is really not of the trout family or what you were thinking of. It is part of the Drum or croaker family.

Recreational fishermen in Louisiana harvest more than 6 million speckled trout each year.
