John Deere 455 compact tractor

Hi folks just got a JD 455 compact tractor in for some work on it. Were in the world is this machine made and is it Deeres own 3 cyl engine. Looks to be a very well made unit. MJ

I thought they were assembled in Horicon Wisconsin ? Maybe the plant is in Georgia now ? Lots of tractor plants are.
Engine was made by Yanmar.

I have a 455 that was leased by a school for one year. It is a 2002 model with a 3cyl Yanmar diesel engine. It has a 60in deck. I mow about an acre of grass every week in the growing season. Never had a bit of trouble with it except for the time I got hung up with the satalite dish because I wasn't used to the four wheel steering. Had to loosen the dish to be able to get out.

Used to have a 20hp Bolens with a 60in deck. They both have the same size fuel tank. The diesel will let me mow the lawn two times more than the gas Bolens.

Very good machine and I would buy another.

That reminds me that I have to go sit on it for an hour or so and cut the tall grass.

My parents have it's little brother, a 425. Has a V-twin Kawasaki engine, 60"deck. I cut my 2 acre lawn with it and it works great. Have had some issues with it, but nothing a little time on the internet hasn't been able to identify and fix.

Really its a garden tractor.I have a 445 that I bought with 500hrs on it with a blown engine, repowered it with a 16HP single cylinder Kohler added a loader and the rear tore up at around 700 hrs.So now I'm in the process of putting a Peerless rear with a Sunstrand Hydro in it out of a Massey 1650.

A good friend had one (a 425) that he had to sell when he sold the farm and moved into town. Nice machine, almost bought it but was way more money than I was willing to go for a lawn mower at the time. I see on Tractor House that they are still selling (at least asking) for upwards of over $4,000, saw one with a loader that was almost $6,000.
