I have seen an articulated lawn mower in the farm magazines for a long time and wondered if anyone ever bought them. I recently heard of a guy with substantial funds and little self-control who has one. Does anyone have experience with these machines? Interesting, but not interested.

I have a Steiner It's expensive but weighs 950Lb bare. It has a 5 foot blade on it and can really push snow. I wouldn't buy anything that expensive to cut grass though.

I know a guy that has one, he likes it.
But, the largest motor available is a 1 liter diesel engine I think. I would rather have a compact diesel utility tractor that handles regular cat 1 rear implements. $15k buys a nice machine.
I have no idea what a Ventrac costs.

Dad has one.
we bought the ones before he had used. Last one was bought new and was the last of the 31 HP turbo diesels. EPA killed the engines for Ventrac.
He really likes them. Flip,up deck is a big plus for cleaning it out. He has some pretty steep hills at his place to mow. If it were not for that a compact tractor would be a better machine for less money.
After he had his stroke I was mowing his place and mine. I'd try and do as much as I could as fast as I could. That ventrac just seemed to bog down too much for me when pressed on the hills. I also had lots of trouble with hoses leaking. You sure can push a lot of diesel thru one when trying to force it !
Finally got my sister to offer to help out and I got her running it. We would run it in low and she could take her time. Really saved ALOT of fuel going slower.
They have their place but all in all I'd rather have a compact tractor.
Also I'm not far from where they make them in Orrville Ohio. You see a lot of them and also the Steiners in this area. Steiner was the for runner of the Ventrac. They sold Steiner off and then after 10 years of a no compete clause he started building Ventracs. Steiner is still owned by another company and still making them.

They're quality built machines with a wide variety of attachments that are easy to change off and on.Kinda bridge the gap between yard machine and
farm/construction equipment.I had a Steiner for awhile and it was a nice unit but a fellow came by with $$$$ that wanted it more than I did.Beats the heck out of buying a high price Zero Turn that's pretty much useless for anything but cutting grass.
