case international tractor serial number

Hello I am looking for some info. I recently purchased a tractor which I was told was a case 500b. But from my research it appears the 500b didn't come with power steering. Or a 4 cylinder gas motor. The engine numbers are 281S00424, that is off the engine block. G1096 is off the transmission. Thanks for the help.

There were two series of 500 Case tractors. The older large frame wheatlands, with 6cyl. 377cu.in diesel. They were made in Racine.
Then came the 500B. A much smaller 4cyl gas tractor, built in the Rock Island plant.
The two plants were almost like two seperate companies, with their own designs. There were several duplicate model numbers in the late 50s. By the 60's these double identies were ended.
Models were 400/B, 500/B, 600/B.
On the Case board below, we just refer to them as as the (Big 500) as opposed to the (B series). Join us down there fore more details.

as Bro Loren said, two different animas a "500" and "500B", the pics above show the two different tractors, the all Flambeau one is the "500" the two tone colored one is the "500B", also both tractors could have power steering

I take it you want to know the year? 500B's were only made 58 and 59, if the radiator cap comes thru the hood it is a 59, if you have/had a door in the hood and the cap is under the hood its a 58 model
