Cheat grass

Any body know of a good way to get rid of cheat grass about 4
acres of it. This stuff is taking over fast. Has anyone ever
managed to eliminate it? Don't have a plow to plow it under.
And if I spray it will kill everything. Suggestion.

If you plowed it you would kill everything so why not spray it with Roundup.

That is how I kill it. But you have to spray it early before it heads out.

cheat is wheats worst nightmare,It is all over the high plains.Cheat grass competes against any cool season grass . I would plant alfalfa and spay select or plant rr corn about 4 years in a row you will get most of it.Paul

I did not know what cheat grass was. I have some kind of grass in my front yard. light fuzzy looking stuff, not too tall.

I google it and I see the pic. Now that is what I have in my front yard, none in back yard.
As someone said, spray with roundup.
I am not sure, will it kill most all other grass?
I am going to give it A try.

amen to all stated,,,it will make decent hay ,, and it diesoff to straw in 3 weeks or so ,,, but the damage is done now to wheat ,, gonna fence off a corner and let the cows do their best to it ,,

Well I am wondering. Had a field that got pretty heavy in cheat but this cool spring white clover showed up heavy. Sprayed it good last week with about 3 oz. Roundup in 10 gallon water. Killed the cheat but the white clover is going strong. Plan on hard landing beans next week . Got to figure out what I am going to hit the clover with

It's a pox, a scourge, a vicious invasive that has taken over the entire country west of the Mississippi and it's a problem east of the Mississippi too. It's called cheat because it cheats farmers out of their crops. And it follows grazing, taking over before resident plants can re-establish. Its barbed, arrow-head like seeds get up animals nostrils, in their ears, behind their eye lids, if a small animal sits on them they get up you know where. Cattle get cheat sores in their mouths. And those barbed seeds get in your socks to drive you crazy. It's a nigh explosive range-fire hazard. Did I say I hate cheat?

I havent worn anything but boots to the field for over forty years but still remember picking cheat out of my socks.almost like sandburr in that respect. Paul

jm.

Trimec or brush killer works somewhat on clover. about 2-3oz/gallon plus some surfactant. It is 2-4D with dicamba and another salt of something. Not any more expensive than glyphosate(Roundup) and does not kill grass. Check the cincentration percentage on the jug.

My yard needs it right now, and I have also heard that Fall is the best time to try and kill clover. 'They' also say that clover likes compacted soil, so the more you can aerate etc. will help.
