last 3 nights in SD and many other areas got down to 25 degrees corn is turning white and brown and alfalfa is white and wilting. Most are going to hurry and harvest the alfalfa but will the corn regrow . Just wondering if any of you have had experience with this? It is so tough to see , it about brings a tear to the eyes.

Corn will be fine if ground wasent frozen.First leaves are bottom leaves.Growing point it still under ground untill corn is foot or so above ground.

Wait a few days and do some population counts- then, make a decision on replanting. It'll let you know fairly easily by looking at it.

If the corn is less than 6 leaves, let it alone as the growing point is still underground and it will come back.

Saw corn in 77 take 18 degrees one night and turned yellow, but came back fine. It was about 10 inches tall.

The growing point is probably ok.

The problems are, the growing point needs to shoot through the now dead plant that was already up.

And the seed is likely pretty weak from being out in the cold ground for several weeks now.

So, its something to watch for the next few days. Pull so e plants in the next few days and split lengthwise, see if the growing point is still nice and healthy.

THRN you have to see if they will grow through the old dead part of the plant over the next week.
