Hmmm, Who's Got One??

Well, I am ALMOST done with the Ferguson TO-30, and I had an interesting request while I was in town today... I saw an old friend of mine, 95, and he remembered my neighbor that passed away that gave me all of the equipment and Ferguson..

He said that one of the most vivid memories he had was when he had gone down to the farm one day, and Ralph was outside hooking up his Ford 501 Mower onto the Ferguson.. He said he remembered the bright red mower and how he thought it look VERY nice on the Ferguson...

Well I told him that I actually had that mower, and that I was still using it, he said to me:

Well, if you have still got it, then get off your a$$ and restore it so I can see it on the tractor one more time...

New mission, I now need to shoot a coat of paint on my mower, but, I need a few decals... I KNOW that they said FORD right across the sheet metal cover thing that goes around the spring at the top of the mower. Does anyone know where I could find two of them, and also what other decals were one it??

Also, what color should I paint it??? I have two 501's and both are clearly red, but the neighbor also has two, and they are both clearly blue, and yes, ALL of the serial plates say Ford 501??

Depending on what color I paint it (Red/Blue) what paint should I use?? I am assuming that it was just the normal 8n Ford Red, but what is the blue??

I would love to hear your input, and I will try to get a few pictures of the Ferguson. Right now it is almost all back together except for a few little things, mostly the wiring. Other than that I have to make a new oil line, and put all of the tires on.. I have special bolts coming to mount the 6 hoop rims and tires on the back, and a BRAND SPANKIN NEW seat of 6.00 x 16's for the front... I'll get them mounted on to the rims, and HOPEFULLY I will get to hear the ole girl run on the weekend...

Also to add to that, anyone have a wiring schematic for a TO-30??

Sorry can't help you we only had Dorfs over here!!!....Good luck with your search.....Have you tried Maple-Hunter? I got some nice decals off them last year in Portland In.........Sam

The early ones were red.The later ones were blue.Ask the old man what color he remembers. Then paint it that color.Make an old man happy.More important than "factory correct"In this case, either would be correct.

Well, one issue is fairly clear- if you're restoring it for the benefit of an old guy who remembers it as red, then red it is. I would think 8N red would be fine- he's a geeza, and probably won't be too critical. Its just on his bucket list.

Thats what I thought.. :) It is going to be Red then... I think that the Red will look better on a Grey Ferguson than blue would anyway!!

Are we all in agreeance (is that a word??) that 8n Red would work then??

Thanks for the input Delta RED... hehehe :p

Well, you can keep your DORF's, besides, they are always Found On Road Dead... :)

My dad works at the local Chevy dealer and we have been a Chevy family all of our lives. When I was about 10 I saw a 53 Ford flatbed and I said Wow that would be a cool truck to have!

He looked at me and said if you ever drive a Ford home, you will no longer call my house home...

Mmmmm Hmmm, got it pops!

So, I personally won't own a ford car, but I think that their tractors are O.K. :) Bryce

Looking good Bryce that's a nice looking Ferguson hope to that mower to I think 8n red would be good it definatley looks great on the tractors lol

Be "all American" and paint it Red, White, & Blue. Front Red, center White, & back Blue. That keeps everybody happy. LOL!
