Ripper sold at Auction

I was told this John Deere Ripper sold for $2800.00 3 weeks ago at an auction here in Highland, IL. I was also told John Deere made 3 models of this one and this was the rarest. I don't know.
I remember seeing the yellow wheels in the shed 15 years ago when I sprayed in front of the building. I knew then what it was and wanted to ask if I could buy it from them but never went back. Maybe I should have...

I pulled one like that with my 40 crawler, got it hooked under rocks, with no hydraulics i had to unhook from it, pull it backwards, usually upset it, rolled it back on the wheels and rehooked it. Neighbor still has it.

I thought that's about all they were worth ? $400 to $600 ???
Never know about some of these auctions though.

actually there were 6 models and we have been lu cky to find 4 we have 23 different models in all of all brands some consider it to be the largest collection in one barn---but 2800 is crazy usually thet run from 50 to 500

That looks almost identical to mine EXCEPT, the brass Ident. plate on mine says Killefer Manufacturing Co. ; Los Angeles, California ; Model: 20 A ; Serial #: 2010 D ; original paint: John Deere Green & Yellow . Mine does not have the Ripper, or Sub-Soiler, but instead has a large single-bottom Plow .

Since Killefer sold out to John Deere in 1937, and my unit has the Deere paint but the Killefer Ident. plate then mine must be one of the completed units that Deere got during the sale.
