ok on the floor pan of my M farmall is the numbers 8550-dc and under the third spark plug the number 6943-dj and in front of the break pedals on the housing the numbers 8002-dd if this helps anyone to determine the year of my tractor I thank you for all of y'alls help

The 8****Are casting #.6943dj is engine SN.That
tells me that is an early engine(1939?).So the
tractor probably is,too_On the M,engine SN and
tractor SN do not match. Look on major castings for
a date code. The easiest place is just below/in
front of the brake pedals on the transmission
caseLooks something like this :8*16*Y.That reads
August,16,1953.(thats on my SM)IH started with "A"
in 1939,a different letter a year.
B='40;C='41;D='42........Steve

ALL of those are casting numbers. Engine serial
number is stamped on a flat surface under the #1
sparkplug. That will at least get you the engine
year, if its original, will pretty much be the sme
year as the tractor. As stated, check the casting
codes if the serial number plate is missing.

Thank you I did find out earlier from another person on here that with the engine code i found it is a 1954 engine probably was a replacement from the original i do remember seeing a number below the break that was 0*7*k not sure if that will help the original serial plate is missing so im just trying to find out the year for future reference on parts. I was thinking it was an earlier M due to the pto cover on the back is flat and the later models I noticed have a cover that sticks out more and seem to be more outward round shaped

0*7*K is the daTE that part was cast. The tractor
assembly date will be close.Do the math, starting
with 'A'(1939)

Thank you very much I see it is more then likely a 1949 model It runs very well I gave 1200 dollars for it and plan on restoring it and using it on my small farm I also got a 1952 vac case tractor I have had for years I love old tractors Im not much on the new ones.

No, K is 1941, A starts in 1930, not 39. 0 or O isnt
right either, could be an 8, 9 or 10. The first
number is the month, so theres no 0 month. Id say
its an 8, so it was built 8-7-1941.

Ok yeah the number appears to be 0 7 k but like you saidit may be an 8 it is hard to tell so probably a 1941 then also it has the small distillate tank on it as well

Im guessing when I say this, but the tractor is
probably earlier than serial #39360. I have 39360 &
39361, and the casting codes range from 8-10 - 8-15
or 20 or something like that, Id have to look now to
be sure. (Assuming the 0 is an 8, of course)

With those cast numbers and if it has the flat PTO housing the rear is a later 41 or early 42 model. The engine is not original and the engine block is newer than the transmission.
First part of 1941 had 8002DC transmission housing casting. If I remember correct the engine block casting number 6943-DJ you give didn't get to DJ until in the 1947 to 1949 area.
