what would dig a 10 inch hole in a gravel drive way it made a 1 foot high 4foot wide dirt pile in 2 days never saw what did it but my grandmas dog wont leave the hole alone she is tough but any thing that can dig like that I think might tear her up I live in southern WI

sounds like a badger to me, they have made a couple of craters in my road before. i fill the hole back in and drive on it to tamp it down and they usually get the message and go dig somewhere else. badgers eat other less desirable critters like mice, rats and ground squirrels so i let em be, and let them do there job.

I'm leaning with a few of the others who suggest a badger did that. It could still be around, or possibly in the hole. Or it could be long gone by now. They can dig like crazy. Might of been digging for a mouse or something. Probly dug untill it either got it or convinced itself that it got away. If they don't get anything, they ussually dig a heck of a hole before they give up. Be carefull not to encounter that badger, you want no part of it, and just fill the hole back in. It is likely gone but be cautious.

Yep, good answer!

If you lived in the South I would say armadillo. Don't know what kind of varmints you have up there.

I'd head down to the local farm supply for the biggest woodchuck smoke bomb they have. Light it, drop it down the hole, and cover it up.
