New Holland or Massey Ferguson?

Hey Guys,
I am going to buy either a NH Workmaster35 or a MF 1529 (28hp). Light chores will be done for the most part...firewood, moving stone, plowing drive. Any suggestions concerning which might be the better choice?
Regards,

Have you already ruled out brands like LS, Mahindra, Kioti, etc.? Might check them too, seems to be better value in some of them.

I read you loud and clear on the value concept. It's just that "okay" is carried by the dealers within easy reach, so I'm trying to get a handle on which tractor is okay-er.

(quoted from post at 10:57:33 04/30/14) You can get a good deal if you have horses with
Massey. got to www.equinesavings.com
Thanks, but our girls will never see The Kentucky Derby

If it were me, I would probably go with Massey Ferguson 2605 or 2615. Just a little bigger than what you said, but I think the excess horsepower would be more useful than you realize. But, my opinion. And worth every cent you paid for it.

I have NH T1510, 30hp and suits me well. It has a loader and a hydrostatic transmission. If you get a loader, the hydrostatic is so nice when you're loading and unloading a lot. Just step on the front of the pedal to go forward and the back of the pedal to go back; hands free and no clutch. Like has been said before, get one with good dealer support.

Thanks Chip812. Value is not always measured in dollars, but sense.

Thanks Chuck. The thing that the Workmaster (new) has that the MF(used 113hrs) does not is a 5yr powertrain warranty.

That workmaster is $24 new I think that MF 1528 is probably $10k less. Tell us what you bought and how much it was and what it has.

Will do Mr. Wile E.

The offer so far has the MF at $3100 less. All we're getting is a bucket for now. If the MF were another G lower, it would be done already. Will let you know in a couple of hours.

I guess as long as you are comparing similar
machines( sometimes hard to do with all the
overlapping models made today )then it boils down to
if you prefer blue or red ?
If you have a good dealer near by both NH and MF
build good units for the most part and have been
doing it for a long time.

Well, Mike, now I'm hearing that the Workmaster, being an economy class tractor, has a weaker tranny than the Boomer series. The Massey is not in the economy class, so I'm still leaning toward red. And guess what? Massey came down that "G" I mentioned earlier, so it's pretty much a done deal---I think...

MF"s are good tractors. A friend of mine has a MF 1240
compact and it is a nice tractor. But is this part of the country
(east TN) the saying is "AGCO is not your friend"
Parts are pricey and availability can be a problem

We went with the 2012 Massey Ferguson 1529 113hrs
$14k

$14k for that Massey F is a good price, with loader too. You would have paid $24 or more for the NH workmaster, the workmaster is a 1.9 liter engine, but.......ten thousand bux is ten thousand bux.

Dave, I would double check the warranty. I believe that's if it's under 240 hours, Manufacturer's warranty should still apply. When I bought mine, it was a lease return with just over 200 hours and I got full warranty.

Parts are "pricey" on EVERYTHING....I've got Massey's AND Ford/NH....NH parts are flat RIDICULOUS....MAkes AGCO parts look cheap by comparison.

+1 for Kioti

I sat in a work master 35, very uncomfortable. I love the Workmaster/Farmall A 45, but the new holland style you're looking at is my least favorite. Given the choice though I guess I'd go Massey.
