oliver 1655 coupler chain

I need to replace the coupler chain and sprockets between the over under shifter and transmission on my Oliver 1655. What am I faced with? Is the retaining nut on the rear or front sprocket? Is the retaining nut left or right handed ?

First step will be pulling the PTO/hydraulic drive shaft from the back of the tractor. Then you will need to pull the engine and O/U enough to slide the sprockets off the shafts. Safest way is to fully pull both from the frame together and block it up. The retaining nut is right-handed - tight, and on the O/U output shaft. Inspect splines on both shafts for wear, might want to replace seals on O/U output and trans input as well, and the o-ring on the O/U output. Replace lock washer on the retaining nut. Reinstall engine and O/U and align with trans input shaft. Reinstall PTO/hydraulic drive shaft in back of tractor, and install new o-ring behind it.

Is there anything special to know when pulling the PTO shaft?

Stay Tuned. No one in this part of Texas works on late model Oliver Tractors.

Thanks for the information.
