Le Sueur swap meet - some photos

Le Sueur was fun.

We inadvertently bumped into Ultradog and his bride - was fun to say hello to them.

It was cold, and kind of muddy - but we still had fun (even our teen daughter).

Bought a few treasures: a couple IHC tools, an E4A magneto, husband got some parts from the Lightening Magneto guy and a couple of smaller soldering irons. I got a blue glass bottle and a rusty wrench to hang on the wall.

Grabbed a burger when we got back into home territory. Got home... and our land renter was here with this year's rent check. He stayed to hang out with us in the shop. Just a fun day.

Some pics:

Found some rust in the parking lot as we were heading in...

I liked this chest and tools... not enough to part with my money though.

I couldn't get there until sunday morning 8:00am. Light rain and only 30 to 40 sellers left and those were packing up--140 miles round trip to see rain drops.Have been there before on the last day and gotten good deals, but not this year.

That was an odd but fun little introduction yesterday wasn't it?
For the rest of the board:
The wagon was being pulled by an 8N Ford. The Mrs and I were going to jump on it but all the benches were full with other riders.
So we jumped on the step and hung on as it brought us to the main gate from the parking lot.
It looked like a nice couple with their daughter right by us so just to make conversation I asked something like;
"Did you bring lots of money to spend?"
The lady said "No, we're just looking for a few items maybe. I bought an old clawfoot bath tub last year."
So I remembered seeing that old claw foot tub last year and recalled someone here had posted about buying it.
So I asked; "Are you on the YT N Board?"
"No" she said. "Mostly on Tractor Talk and Talers."
Then I remembered; "Oh that's right. You must be Sweetfeet."
"Yes. Who are You?"
"I'm Ultradog."
"Well how do you do? And this must be your new bride."
Yes, meet Ruth."
So we all chatted along a bit as the trailer pulled us up to the gate. Then shook hands all around and went our seperate ways.
Afterwards the wife and I talked about how uncanny it was to sort of fallen right into knowing someone like that.
Sweetfeet, we should have had a cup of coffee and chatted a little more instead of disapearing so quickly like we all did.
I don't know why we didn't.
We didn't stay long. That wind was just plain cold and kind of miserable so we left early.
All I bought was a couple of fitting brushes for $2. And lunch.
Maybe we can spend a little more time next year.

Ultradog,

Yes, it was fun. And my husband and I both laughed about it and said, "What are the odds of that happening?".

Maybe we can grab a cup of coffee next year (I kind of had the same after-thought, but didn't want to be intrusive of your day). Plus, I was not truly awake - our son was at a friend's place Friday night... but kindly left his alarm set for 5:00 am Saturday morning. So I got up a couple hours before I'd have preferred to.

We did not cover every row this year either... because yeppers, it was a hair on the cold and windy side.

Anyway, it was fun to meet you and your wife.

wdgary,

Oh, that's too bad. What a disappointment for you! We so look forward to the swap meet each year.

rrlund,

Agreed and amen to winter being too long.

Sadly, it kind of felt like winter yesterday.

I have always wanted to go to that swap meet but the timing is always wrong, with getting into fieldwork and all. Jim

Paul,

We even thought Saturday was just a little bit on the thin side compared to other years... both for vendors and for crowd.

Just to chilly this year.

I went on Friday this year. I had never done that before. When I arrived around noon the parking lot was full, and there were vehicles parked on both sides of the road for at least 1/2 mile in all three directions! In all the years I've been going up there I've never seen it like that.
I went into the parking lot anyway and did manage to find a spot in row R, but needed the 4 wheel drive locked in in order to get to it. By afternoon it had dried out quite a bit, but I'm sure that's all changed again by now.

Favoring my head cold a bit, I didn't decide to leave the farm until almost 1:00 on Saturday. Decided to go after all for a bit.

The wind was stiff, but it was a pretty nice walking day by then. The ground was dried out good enough - could see where it was miserable on Friday and to get in to a spot, lot of trucks had chains on.

I wasn't going for anything but sight seeing, left with a shifter knob, 3pt arms for the ford 960, and a shop manual to track down electrical gremlins on the Gleaner combines. $124 all together. And well I can't walk a whole afternoon past a cheese curd booth.....

Paul

Rich'sToys,

That's funny... we parked in row R on Saturday.
BUT with only 2WD, we passed-by spots until we found one without mud.

I usually get there Weds noon and stay till Sat, but this year I waited till Friday morning (still muddy). Had a great time but froze sleeping in my van, left Sat noon. 120 miles to home. Saw a lot of friends, had fun few days, been there every year since 1987.

Bearded fellow in the pic with the train is John L. of the White Pine Threshing & Logging Show near McGrath,MN.

Dad bought a couple of oil heaters when they first came out; the heating element dropped down through the dipstick tube, but it wasn't very effective so we quit using them.

Hello dick2,

The heater on the picture is actually installed in the oil pan with an adapter brazed to it. It looks like the 150 watts I used to install many moon ago.

Guido.

Nice first picture. That is my buddy Dallas from Allison IA with the Hillsboro 300 gooseneck and blue Dodge pickup. He always has a trailer load of sweet IH finds. He said he was up there on Wednesday in line waiting to get in.

We were there on Friday. It was definitely wet, but much nicer than the cold wind you guys commented on. Warm and sunny. I like going on Fridays. Best selection of finds. Also, it doesn't shoot half the weekend.

Next year the YT people should meet somewhere. I was selling Fri and Sat just down from the Yester year building. Good sales this year considering the cool Sat. Ron Mn.

We tried that last year and a couple of us did meet. I was hoping to do it again this year, but time got away from me. We really need a big flag so we can be found. It would be nice to have a sign-in area and maybe a few chairs to sit and visit.

Would be nice to set a time late morning - like an 11:00 coffee break at a certain location... because when we first get there, we are really pumped to get to "looking". But after a couple hours, a cup of coffee would be a nice break for a few minutes.

RB,

Sure would be fun to meet everyone from all over the country/world.

Well, if you ever come up - make sure you drag a trailer. You just never know what you might find. :)
