Something is in the air

I don't know what it is, can't see or smell it, but there is something in the air that is making me very sleepy this time of the day. Any one else having the same problem? I sit down in the recliner and my eyes want to close.

I'm avoiding naps from now on. I heard on the radio just today that 85% of people over 40 who take a nap every day are dead within 15 years.

I'M AWAKE!

One spring when I was a kid an ole boy who was spraying gunnite to seal the irrigation canals around here saw me yawning in the middle of the day and said, "Son, it looks like you've got spring fever. The iron in your blood has turned to lead in your arse!"

Still makes me grin...

I started taking vitamin B a couple weeks ago and now It seems to have cleaned the lead out of my butt. Placebo effect? I don't know. It does turn the P golden yellow. I told Marilyn it makes me P gold! I've never seen lead that color! Jim

Yikes ! If I'm not in the phart sack by then, I fall asleep in the TV chair , wake up at some stupid hour and feel like crap!

I've gained some notoriety amongst my friends for being a napper.
My dad was one too. He'd come home from work and take a 'ten cent' nap.
I have heard they are good for you. Relieves your stress level and makes you more relaxed.
A lot of smart people were nappers.
Thomas Edison, James J Hill, Winston Churchill,
JFK, Ronald Reagan, Napolean Bonapart, Karl Marx to name a few.

(quoted from post at 17:35:13 04/26/14) I'm avoiding naps from now on. I heard on the radio just today that 85% of people over 40 who take a nap every day are dead within 15 years.

If a nap a day = dead in 15 years
Then a nap every other day should = dead in 30 years
A nap twice a week I should be good for another 60 years by which time I will switch to a nap a day = good for another 15 years.
Wow thanks to naps starting at age 40 we are going to live to be at least 115 years old.

After I retired, I began needing a nap quite often in the afternoon, and sometimes even in the midmorning. I felt sleepy all the time.

My wife complained that I snored real loud at night and sometimes I would just go silent for a minute or more and then start snoring real loud again. We talked to the doctor about it, and he ordered a sleep study for me.

The sleep study required me to go to the hospital where they had me sleep in a special room while they monitored me. After I had been asleep for an hour or two, the nurse came in and fitted me with a mask for a CPAP machine, which she also set up. Then I went back to sleep.

The next morning the nurse showed me the graphs of how I had been sleeping. Without the CPAP, I would sleep for a little while and then would stop breathing for a time period and partially wake up, apparently really disrupting my sleep. With the CPAP operating, I continued to breathe and it did not appear that I woke up at all.

I have used my CPAP machine every night since then. My wife says I very seldom snore at all anymore, which was a big relief for her, and I now seldom feel like taking a nap during the day unless I have been up much later than normal the night before.

I have found out that lots of people have the sleep apnea problem that the doctors diagnosed with me. Sleep apnea can lead to or worsen many other problems besides sleepiness, including heard disease and loss of cognitive function. For many a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure)machine really helps, allowing more effective sleep. But for other people, they cannot stand the feeling of the mask on their face and that keeps them from sleeping.

The CPAP works great for me--I sleep LOTS better with it than without it. If you are having lots of problems needing naps in the daytime, you might consider talking to your doctor about it. The problem could be much more serious than you think it is! Good luck.
