lawn fertilizer question.

was planning on fertilizing the lawn today; however they are fore-quessing 3-5 inches of rain for next week. what does that amount of rain in a 2 day period do to the fertilizer granules, wash them in or wash them away. it is on mostly level to gently sloping ground. thanks.

I don't fertilize lawns, but if I did I would go ahead and do it. The only way it would wash it away was if you were to get a gully washer immediately after you put it on. As dry as the ground is, or at least in our area, the first few tenths of rain would put it in the soil right away.

If ya add fert. then that means the grass will grow more , then ya have to mow more , then that means ya have to buy more fuel , and spend more time mowing Grass . Then your neighbors have to listen to the lawnmower running then the weed wacker then the blower . around here IF you are the first out to mow it starts a chain reaction and before long the whole street is a buzz with noise that even drowns out the trains .

What type of fertilizer are you applying? If it has a lot of nitrogen (N- first number, and water soluable), I'd hold off. The second two numbers (P-K) should be much more stable.

Aww, just do it the easy way. Stake out a Cow on your lawn and get it mowed & fertilized at the same time. Plus, you can get fresh Milk. See, saves you time, money, & labor. LOL!

I don't fertilize the lawn. Fertilize it and it will grow faster and then need mowing more often taking time from my bigger toys I use in the field. And since I don't have the lawn fenced for the automatic mowers to stay on it....

But "IF" I wanted to mow more I'd fertilize it before a rain.
