First, make sure fuel is getting to the injector pump. It may have just siphoned down and has air in the system.

I ran into a stuck stop solenoid recently, a diesel genset that had been stored with biodiesel left in the lines. It had an electric solenoid that when deactivated it pushed the governor to stop position.

I just eased everything apart to get to the stuck parts, which were in the upper end of the injector pump. Cleaned it up best I could, carb cleaner, rust penetrant, Safety clean, (never found anything that would cut the white gunk though), worked the governor linkage until it was free, put it all back, started right up!

The 354 in my 550 does that. I try to always push it back in when I shut it down. My dad doesn't always remember. Something sticks internally in the pump. It started after a bad batch of fuel that had water in it. 4 sets of filters later I am finally getting a handle on the water problem, but it still sticks sometimes if you let it sit overnight.

What usually works for me is to work the shut off in and out 10-20 times.

My cousin has a MF135 with 3cyl Perkins and it will do the same thing if the shut off lever is left in stop position for a period of time. MF mechanic told him to wide open throttle, shut off in Run position and tap the rear of injection pump a couple times with plastic hammer.
