The corn I planted in the garden the first week in April is starting to come up. 77 deg. today, supposed to rain and turn cooler tomorrow. I'm in SC.

May get down to 20 degrees in western NY on Tuesday night. Thinking more about maybe shoveling snow than planting corn around here. Glad yours is up - nothing beats sweet corn in a garden.

Planted 6 rows in garden about a week and half ago and got 8" rain over the weekend after. Ground is crusted over and a few hills trying to come up. About 3" rain predicted for the next couple days, so I"ll probably have to replant. In central MS.

A little early for corn where I live. Neighbor staggers planting his sweet corn so it all doesn't come on at the same time. He has to put an electric fence around his garden, a scare crow and plays a radio to keep critters from eating his corn. Sometimes he needs to use a gun too.

I do my neighbor favors, so I don't have to plant corn. He brings me all the corn I want. It's good too.

We have SNOW right now as I type. The ground is white with the stuff. It's good for the grass seed but not good for much else, including our attitude. Jim

I planted a couple rows in march, up about 6" tall. Spose to freeze tuesday night. Bout right.
Getting lots of asparagus now, is really good.

I just planted my sweet corn yesterday and we're getting some much needed rain right now. Temps are supposed to dip but I decided to risk it.

nw alabama; potatoes, onions, green peas, leaf lettuce, spinach, cabbage and broccoli in the ground. all doing good except green peas, 2 weeks now and coming up skippy. planted corn and green beans yesterday. asparagus slow coming in this year, perhaps extreme cold for this area hurt them.

My sweet corn planting goes like this, Plant corn when it comes up watch the Crows and doves fight over the sprouts, then what is left weed and till and hoe and sweat then as it matures watch the deer and coons fight it then cry and say i will never plant corn again. then do it all over again the next year. tring something different to get ahead of the critters every year. and we say they are the stupid ones

last year was the first our neighbor got more sweet corn than the coons.
our golden retriever chow mix would patrol Le Roy's
corn patch one day Le Roy came over and was telling me I haven't had any coons in my sweet corn this year.
my dog was sitting next to me and i pointed to him Le Roy said you think that's why the coons are staying away I said he is down there every chance he gets he hates coons and will kill them if he gets a hold of one. I think the coons get his scent and stay away

Planted sweet corn yesterday here in central IL. I planted a 75 day Bodacious. I also put out some potatoes and onions. Supposed to get to 28 tomorrow night, but everything will be OK.

I've planted pumpkins around my sweet corn the last 2 years and haven't lost an ear to the coons. I had always heard about it, but never tried it. Worked for me. There's plenty of coon's around too. See them all the time. Neighboring farm close by has a lot of old buildings that make a good home for them.

i love sweet corn from the garden. we have electric fence, scare crow, a water powered scare crow, a couple 22's, and dogs to patrol the outside perimeter.

Have electric fence for animals, 2 low strands for coons, one chest high for deer, has worked so far.

Supposed to get down to 36 tuesday night, rain today.

Jennifer:

Dogs patrolling with 22's , that sounds like a
dangerous situation,(and not just for the critters).
LOL!
