Oliver 70 still won't run

I have taken the carb off twice since I last posted yesterday. I took it apart and cleaned everything with carb solvent and run a torch cleaner through all the passages I could. I then used carb spray in the passages. It will only run on full choke and at least half throttle. It has a strong orangeish-blue spark at the coil. The instruction manual that I got with the kit is pretty vague. I used the settings that my owner manual says. I tried spraying around the intake manifold and carb with some carb spray and it did not change anything. I don't think I have a vacumm leak. I may try putting it in some boiling water like someone suggested. I would appreciate any other ideas. Thanks.

The carb isn't worn enough to allow air to enter around the ends of the choke shaft, is it?

Saw that happen on a VAC Case once.

How old is the gas? My 70 is the only one I have that's sensitive to that. Unless I put fresh gas in it,it won't run for nuthin.

Hold your hand over the throat of the carburetor while a helper makes an attempt to start the engine. My wife use to get that job. Poor suction indicates low intake manifold vacuum. Hal

My vote is for vacuum leak, perhaps the intake gaskets, carb gasket or manifold burnt through. I like to use a propane torch to find vacuum leaks, the engine will pick up as soon as it gets a sniff of the propoane. I have found leaks this way that carb cleaner etc would not find.

Good luck
Rich

Manifolds crack between the exhaust side and the intake (where they join to assure heat to the mixture) the crack or rust through is invisible to the outside and is Exhaust gas recirculation at its worst.
With the carb off, try the hand over the carb flange route. It should suck your hand hard enough to be serious. If it just breathes in a bit look up into the manifold with a good light to see if there is a crack. (tough to find, and insidious) Jim
