Another computer question

I just picked up a nice used Lap top running Windows 7 pro.
For some reason I can't get it to connect to my router to get on line.
What am I missing here?

Is wifi button or switch turned on?
if wifi is on go to your wireless networks and tell it to connect. Supply any passwords it needs to connect.
It is also possible that another program besides windows is controlling your wifi connections. If that is the case windows wifi will let you know.

Jim:

Once you get it up & running, be advised that Win 7 Pro has as part of that operating system "VIRTUAL XP" . So if you were used to running XP and LIKED XP, you can still use XP as part of the win 7 program. Also, the updates for Win 7 cover the XP as it is part of the Win 7 program.

The message I get is - Not connected to wireless network.
Wife's lap top works fine. she is also running Windows 7 pro.

Right click on "Computer". Left click on "Properties". Left click on "Device Manager". You should see two network adapters wired and wireless. Right click on the wireless and then left click on "uninstall". Do not check the delete driver box. Restart the computer and it will reinstall your wireless adapter and it should work,

On my computer all the programs work just fine except link_disallowed. When I log on to link_disallowed the computer locks up. Thanks for any help
