ford 8N carb

Kinda the nature of the beast.Turn off the gas when engine is stopped. You can put in a new needle/ seat. May or may not help. Also make sure the float is set correctly. It could even have a hole in it causeing it to sink.

Most likely it's trash under the needle valve. Be sure the sediment bowl and screen are clean.

Sometimes you can flush out whatever is in the needle valve by turning the gas off and running the engine until it dies. Then turn the gas back on and see if the drip stops.

If it doesn't you'll need to open up the carb and see what's wrong. Could be a bad needle and seat, sunk float, or float level too high.

If you're careful you can usually ease it apart with out tearing the gasket, clean it up, check it out and put it back without having to buy a kit.

If you really want a permanent cure,an electric inline shutoff is the way to go. I have it on two of my Olivers.

(quoted from post at 15:51:00 04/08/14) The gas is dripping from a plug? at bottom center of card that looks like it has a hole in it.

Yep, it has (at least is supposed to have) a brass filter thingy in there (forget the name right now) that is supposed to drip if the bowl gets overfilled. Mine did and had a leak in the float. I just did a complete rebuild on it, not hard and kinda fun to do. Go over to the 9N/2N/8N forum for help. Gary (aka: GB in MT) over there is a master carb builder and is more than willing to have you call him and he'll walk you through. Did that on my first one, I had a 9N and an 8N carb to do and the one from the 8N had some strange things on it that weren't normal and Gary worked me through it.
