just putting it out there , which type do you like, me im old and not much of a computer person, but i like printed, as when your working on a tractor and up to your elbows in it, nothing beats a printed page sitting on the operaters platform or fender top to look at without trying to get a computer to unfreeze and look something up

Printed. It's a whole lot cheaper to drop a printed manual than to drop a laptop.

Not many complete manuals are available online anyway.

I agree with you. But sometimes I see a diagram or picture posted on the computer that is also helpful too. When I find something like that, I print it out and put it in a plastic sleeve to keep them clean. I store them in folders along with other manuals. I have one for electric, Carbs, Another on where to find parts and so on. Works for me.

I am with you on this one , I am old school, I like to have a book laying on the bench when I am working on a machine. It is just easier for me.
Jeff.

I like books!I,d rather pay money for the book than to get a free computer download.Fot all the reasons listed....

i like the printed word and pic in front of me. when i buy a vehicle, tractor or what ever, and i have to work on it, i'll buy the shop manual. the problem whith them is they are to vague some times. for example: caution, warning, caution, warning, wear safety goggles, gloves, wire harness, warning, caution, remove dash and replace said cable. ahh... what... remove dash ? ahh... how do ya remove dash ?

WHY can"t you have BOTH? Print out what you need from what you find on-line and take it to the job you are working on.

If you lose or soil a page, print another!

Books, and buy them for all the equipment. Couldn't get a service manual for the Honda engine stuff so a local dealer down loaded them to a zip drive and gave them to me. He obivously receives my limited service parts business. Also had to down load a service manual for the wood chipper's Kohler engine. Honda will not allow full manuals to be posted on the net.

I'm very computer savvy, work with them all day, but..... I want the printed manuals for every piece of equipment I own. When I need one, I go to the file cabinet, grab the pendaflex folder for the equipment and voila, the manual is in my hands faster than I can log on to my computer. However, I must admit that I have found many of those manuals online and have the .pdf on my hard drive, but the manual always gets printed and filed away. The .pdf is just a backup.

It's also easier for me to put a sticky note on a page of a hard-copy with a hand-written note sometimes. ("throttle body screws: 10mm LONG socket, upper manifold: 13mm")
