boxtruck rollup door repairs

I use several storage box bodies and trailers with rollup doors. What is the secret to getting them to work smoothly? They are all 20plus years old and the dealers say replace the entire assembly. What has worked for you?

Make sure they are set up level. Try jacking up one back corner at a time and see it that solves the problem,

I know with my old garage door it helps tremendously if you lube all the moving parts. If it ah rails lube them up too. I would used pb blaster or something like that because I think grease would gather to much dirt and become tacky.

Like some others posted, lube the moving parts. This would be the rollers, the torsion bar bearings, and the hinges. Then make sure the bed/trailer is square/level. Also you may need to tighten up the torsion spring as it may have gotten weaker with age. They are just like the ones in a garage door. You use two bars to tighten them. You hold the tension and loosen the set screws in the spring holder. Then tighten it several turns.

ID you do all that they should open a lot better/easier.

If any of those doors are getting rotten where the cable hooks to the bottom of the door....WATCH OUT!!!

The spring load on those cables is very strong and you don't want to get hit by one. I had a door get bad and it started to collapse from the spring pressure. I had to release the cables from the outside and it was exciting. I did it a safe way from a distance.
