Is there a forum on this site to discuss cactus problems or does anyone have any suggestions where to find solutions. I"m leasing property in north Texas and the cactus is taking over

First year I was on the harvest I was warned to not kick a cactus. We Iowa boys don't have much expertise with those plants. Jim

ttighee, Where in North Texas?, What type of land?
FIL has High Plains Grassland, No Trees had Tordon 22K Flown down took about 5 yrs to get the total control, Why 5 yrs? the amount of rain received is less, in areas where there is more rain the total control would be better, quicker!
If you have Really nice Over-story trees then an Air application is Not what you want, use a golf car w/ sprayer and a Liquid Tordon solution and spot treat will be a better option Do Not treat Under the Canopy of your large over-story trees. In areas of Junk mesquite trees and Cactus fly it down and kill it all, clean cut the dead Mesquite and get rid of the cactus reminent you will not be sorry IMO.
Hope this helps!

John A.

Use a propane brush burner to burn the spines off and feed them to cows. (depends to a degree on which type of Cacti they are!) Jim

We actually have quite a bit of cactus in N.E. Tx. Most of it isn't large, but spraying with GrazonNext has been effective. Its a slow kill, but it does kill it. We have eradicated it from our hay producing fields.
