What are corn prices for fall delivery(november)? What do you guys think verses the 'Pros'?My buddy think prices will go up,thinks there will be flooding this spring causeing planting issues. Thoughts? Steve

I think the last 2 days has put us into one of those areas where: if we sold 10% of our planned harvest today, and that were the worst sale we made, we would be in pretty good shape.

On the other hand, we might find that was our best sale of 2014 crop too, and would have been a good move?

A lot of jitters in the markets, I wonder if this isn't a good place to do a little something? Lot of time left for weather scares to chase prices higher - too dry in the SW, too cold and wet in the north, etc. but, in the end we have a lot of time left, and we tend to make a pretty good crop on barely ok weather what if things shape up in the next 3 weeks, and something in the report on Friday didnt add up for me, lot less corn acres, only slightly more bean acres, I think we will find with ok prices now there will be more corn planted than this report said!

My guess, worth less than you are paying for it.

The news in my area has trouble predicting next week, let alone 2, or 3 months down the road. 2 years ago where I am at it hit low 80's the last week of March. People were planting corn before April 1st. The earliest should have been April 15th. The Spring was pretty dry; then early summer very dry with record high temperatures. All of the sudden in mid summer the temps fell to normal lows, & the rain broke out above normal. The people that planted too early were hurt the most in yield because the cobs were forming in 100 degree weather with no rain for 7+ weeks. The price skyrocketed, some Fuel processing plants closed which caused the price to fall. ND oil drilling was going boom which caused $'s to fall. I don't know how anybody can keep up with it.

The really crazy part about it is Farmers normally make more money in a bad year; than a good one. Last year was a much better year (weather & yield wise), & farm income fell 27% on average. If a car dealer has bad year; then its bad in the wallet too! Farming You never know! The guy who planted on March 28th that year had 10% crop yields on corn. I planted the first field May 1st due to rain, & had 65 - 70% yield.

I know this dosent answer your question, but the local feed mill was $10 for 50# of cracked corn last fall, this January it dropped to $9 for 50#.

Planting intentions report predicts 91.7 million acres corn going in this year. This is 4% below last yrs in terms of acres. This surprised the market & boosted corn price, closing 5.07 @ Chicago. It went to 5.10 today then fell back. Corn has had a run up from 4.30 in last two months. Can there be much room left for a further run up in price? That is a healthy run. The next planting intentions report is just around the corner - Apr 10th. More price volatility.
