Deutz 5506 won't shift in to 3rd or 4th gear.

Hello,

My Deutz 5506 suddenly developed a problem wherein it will no longer shift into 3rd or 4th gears. Also the shift lever spins completely around 360 degrees in either direction.

High low range and reverse shifter seem to work okay. Any ideas, advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the pins at the base of your shift stick have worn out.
Take the clamp loose at the base of the stick that holds the rubber boot to the shift plate. Pull the boot up. Looking down, there should be two notches in the round part at the base of the stick. On the outside of the raised part of the shift plate that the stick is in, you will see what looks like a round dowel that goes into the notches. Pull/pry the pins out.
Sometimes you can turn them end for end and they"ll work fine. Otherwise, you can get a piece of steel dowel the same diameter. You will have to taper them with emerey cloth or something to resemble the originals.
Reinstall them, pull the shift boot down and reinstall the clamp. The clamp actually keeps them in place.
You may have to pull the shift plate up to realign the shift rails.
Fairly easy fix.
