Picked up some goodies today.

Got this air compressor and jack today. They belonged to John, my best friend and business partner from back when I was in the welding business. He was the guy who taught me to weld. He passed away summer before last and his wife passed on Monday. His oldest son and I are good friends and have many good stories to tell from working together in the shop and farming. Tom and his brothers asked if I wanted some of his dad's stuff so I went down today and we spent the afternoon reminiscing and going through John's things. I bought the compressor and they gave me the jack and a few other things. I can't even imagine how many things I've raised up with that jack, so it means a lot to me to have it.

That's great! It's always nice to get something like that that you can use but has sentimental value as well. I have ONE Proto brand screwdriver that belonged to my Father-in-Law. Mother-in-Law gave every thing else away! About two years before Dad died he told me to go ahead and take his chain saws, wrenches and other tools. He didn't have a lot but some are quite old as well as an "Audel's New Automobile Guide" repair manual which was printed in 1947. BTW, about how old is that compressor?

Sorry for your loss, but I know that Jack will bring back a lot of memories.

I have an old, 20 Ton capacity ratcheting Bottle Jack that has the patent date of July 4, 1917, cast on the side of it. Found it partially buried in the dirt way out in the middle of [b:886b8258df]NOWHERE[/b:886b8258df]. Every time I see it, it reminds me of my Mother, as that was the day that my mother was born. She passed away in November of 2001 .

I'm sure your friend John would be glad to know you got the two things. Too bad you had to come by them with the death of your best friend. We had a jack like that where I worked we used it a lot. I think ours had a top piece. Stan
