I have a Z145 4cyl gas. total rebuild on the tractor. Problem is tractor will run 3 or 4 mins then run out of gas i can wait 15 to 20 sec fires right back up. i have taken the carb off bout 15 times and apart no trash in carb nothing in tank took tank off cleaned, took bowl off and apart, run wire tru all holes in carb and cleaned. float set to 1/4 like it supposed to be.made a new steel gas line this morning still the same thing. i put carb on tractor without bowl to observe fuel coming thru seat. to me it seems like not enough fuel is coming thru seat. also clecked gas cap for venting all good there even un with it off still same thing . at this point i am totally stumped.
its a marvel schebler carb
thanks in advance for anything

Have you inspected the screen in the tank?

Have you installed an inline fuel filter? If so get rid of it unless it is specifically designed for a gravity flow fuel system.

sceen is clean, i have taken the bowl completely apart and cleaned and checked it also. and no there is not an inline filter.

are you SURE it is not the ignition ?

Leave a timing light hooked up and watch for spark as it dies.

all the way in , i actually thought it was maybe to far so i took it out and measured dept to make sure it wasnt in the fuel passage to far

i did check at the coil with a wire tester and the positive side stayed hot, but i didnt check with a timming light i will go do that right now and get back to you

OK Mike , with timming light it looses power on starts with cyl 4 then 3 then 2 runs on one a min then cuts off. so your right on. ok now it has a new cap new rotor condencer and cap and new wires even the coil is new,

yes i also checked that, after a wise thought from Mike i checked it with a timming light and found i possibly have a electrical fault as well. i think maybe i solved the fuel problem by taking the spring off of the neddle and float.

Hi ditch, Have been there 1000 times. There is only one way to clean the carb: It must be soaked in a cleaner designed for this. Usually
for overnite or as directions call for. "chalk"
builds up over the years in all the small passages. So take apart anything you can, for sure the needle and seat so the cleaner can get in those passages. Check or rpl. line filter and
don't rule out the sed bowl assy. Chuck

Thank you Chuck, I actually got it fixed this morning . come to find out it was electrical. I feel like such a dummy. I guess i was just over thinking the problem. ended up i had to put a resistor on the coil points where getting hot and shutting down. i had put a new coil on that needed a external resistor and i didnt even look to see it needed one. so its all been my fault.
i love these forums for info theres tons of folks on here that will get you track and i thank yall very much.
