when you feet aren't happy

It may be a stretch thinking socks are a tool. However, when your feet aren't happy you can't stand to work.

I recently walked too much at the Grand Canyon. My feet were burning. Wrong shoes, wrong socks. I could hardly walk.

On the way back to Vegas, we stopped off at a place in Boulder city selling alpaca socks. This is the most I've ever paid for socks, but after buying the socks and getting new shoe inserts, I had happy feet, priceless.

I don't know how long the socks will hold up. I bough the thickest paca socks they had, heavy boot. We walked around Bolder city for the day. My feet were so happy, I went back to the store, bought 2 more pair. Got the guy's phone number in case I wanted to buy more and couldn't find them on line.

i agree, you gotta have happy feet. it's a very good investment. also a good mattress. waking up nice and comfortable sure beats waking up with a back ache any day.

He might have a website, but he said when he tried to sell things like one of a kind paca blankets, rugs, customers were upset because they didn't get the exact one he posted.

I have his business card at home. He only takes phone orders. I'll post it later.

Now that your feet are happy you should go hiking in Red Rock Canyon park just west of Vegas, Really nice! I agree, good sox are worth it! I bought some at the flea market in Mesa AZ that are really good. Where do you suggest going at the Grand Canyon? We were both there when we were young but it's on our list of places to go. Next year we are going to stay in AZ longer, this weather sucks!

Alpaca socks are the best I have ever tried, but they are expensive. They wont wear as long as others either, but for comfort, they are hard to beat.

George, I, too, am interested in getting this contact number and in learning more about the available socks. I usually buy SmartWool socks, medium loft, for horseback riding year 'round. I normally pay around $22 or so per pair. I'd give these a try, based on your review.

I guess I was born lucky I have a high arch and can wear just about anything and never have trouble with my feet. I went bare foot until I got out of high school darn Navy spoiled me into wearing shoes. But I still take them as soon as I get in the house. I feel for you flat footed folks but there just isn't anything I can do for you.

Happy feet Yea!

I have seen them at shows and flea markets but never have tried them , guess I will . Wife was having sore feet and went to a foot doc. She got some real inserts with a high stiff arch [ $50 ] and helped a bunch . My feet hurt all the time and she bought me a pair , cant belive how much better my feet feel .

We took a train ride from Williams, AZ to the canyon. Over a 2 hour ride, went very slow. However the package deal came with staying at a lodge overnight, a tour bus ride, and train ride back. At Williams we stayed there the night before train ride and the night after. I would NEVER pay for a tour bus again. The Park Service includes free shuttle bus rides. The red line goes from the village, 8 miles along the south west rim. You can hike the full 8 miles. Or just part of it and hop on a shuttle bus, every 15 minutes, at many points along the rim. If you hike the full 8 miles, hop on a shuttle, about 45 minutes back to villiage. There is also a shuttle that runs through the village. Takes you to camp grounds, parking, many points for pick up and drop off about a 45 minute ride.

I found the shuttle bus really neat, natural gas powered, clean, comfortable. Nice experience. Wish we had scheduled more time at canyon. But at the time, my feet were killing me.

I think there may be a shuttle service for the east rim trails. We didn't go on them. We took a short trail to go in to the canyon a very short distance. The trip was a real visual overload.

I would highly recommend the Canyon. Take camera with loads of memeory. Before you go, see if your feet can handle hiking a long distance. I wish I had, then I would have discovered I had the wrong shoes and socks.

had a case of plantar faceitous(sp) inserts and alpaca socks made all the difference in the world, they were fitted inserts and the doc that did them recommened those socks.

You are lucky !

Actually a high arch causes a lot of problems as you need inserts to support your higher arch. That's part of my problems along with heel spurs and plantar fasciitis. Shoes made today all come from China the land of flat feet.

Mike, I know of a place in Indiana that will hand make you shoes and inserts. The last pair a friend had made were over $600. So, if you have bad feet that's the place to go. Shoes will fit perfectly but you will be lucky if the soles last you a year. Getting them retreaded is about $60.

As for flat feet, there is a medical procedure done locally that can fix your problem. You will walk out of the hospital the same day.

I know a person that had that done and is very happy she did.

I found an online place that sells the socks I bought. If this doesn't work for you who want to buy the socks, let me know and I'll look for their phone number. You may try ebay. I may have paid too much, $27.95, plus tax, but happy feet are priceless when you are on vacation.

Walking is a pain for me. Talked to a guy that used to make the orthopedic inserts and he told me that the real ones will make all the difference in the world. But as George noted, they will also run over $500.00 per pair and apparently fitting them is a very, very involved process. I've often thought about it, but I don't even know where to start.

Bret,
I think the last pair was north of $500, but that
included custom made shoes too. There are only a
few people who will make shoes by hand, one is in
Vincennes, Indiana. If anyone is interested, I'll
look up his number. They are made of real leather.
Insoles, cork, and some kind of padding. Insoles
may last about 6 months. Shoes need retreaded in
about 9-12 months. You may want to get 2 pair, so
while you are wearing one, you can send the other
pair in for repair. That's what we did.

Medicare may pay for them if you are a diabetic.
We paid cash for them.

yea, could ya fetch me another brewski please :)

A couple of years ago I tried a pair of Red Wings "Merino Hiker" socks. They're the most comfortable I've found. They run around 14 or 15 bucks a pair, depending on the store. Although they're expensive, that's offset by their long life. They outlast cotton crew socks by about three to one.
