A John Deere flywheel

Got a question........I just bought a 46 A with a busted A2615R
flywheel with a good ring gear. I've got a A3264R flywheel that
came off a late model tractor but has a bad ring gear. My
question is can I just swap the rings gears out and put the
good flywheel back on the tractor? Everything appears to be
the same size but I want to get someone's opinion about it.
Thanks

Post this in the John Deere section. Being the two flywheels have different numbers they may not interchange. Maybe different diameters which WILL effect starter clearance.

Pretty sure they won't interchange. late A starter was mounted under the flywheel, early styled was in a special engine cover bracket. Good flywheel shouldn't be hard to find. Just be sure it came off a tractor with good crankshaft splines so it doesn't work loose and ruin yours.

There is a serial # break, between those two flywheels. 584000 starts the later flywheel. No interchange.
