At work I have been tasked with updating our crane. It has a hercules g3400 that needs a complete rebuild. The mechanic is saying $10K ballpark. For a 45-48 year old crane it probably isn't worth rebuilding. What kind of crate motor could we drop in? If there aren't options, we might look at a 1980ish crane. Thanks!

At least one Oliver 2150 has been repowered with a cummins. the 2150 came with a Hercules motor.

2150 had a 478c.i. motor g3400 is 339c.i. I believe.those and a lot of other hercules motors were used in military applications. with that being said I would look on e-bay or military surplus outlet. they had one at my local surplus store, military take-out with 400hrs. for 2k. Or call KRAFT POWER THEY CAN GET PARTS FOR THOSE HERCS.Don't have number right off just google hercules parts you should find parts pretty easy,M&M SURPLUS HAS SOME TOO. Good luck.10k seems high guess it depends on what it needs though.

Thanks for the info. I will check surplus.
Any chance you can give me the name of
your local surplus with the motor?

Thanks.
