How to haul a round stock tank

I have a chance to pick up a round 12" like new stock tank. My plans are to use it as a hillbilly swimming pool for my granddaughter and me. Being 12" would I need to haul it standing on end? And setting up on my trailer would put it up around 14" high. Is that going to be a problem with under pass"s or power lines?

Depending how far and what roads...

It would be easier to haul flat if you don't get caught. I moved a carport on the interstate that was 12 wide about 20 miles through DFW metromess, didn't get caught. Had my dumb act well rehearsed in advance though! LOL

Do you have side pockets on your trailer, use couple 2 x 4's for a brace. try hauling it at a 45%.
That how we hauled over size loads to get them lower or narrower. Go lock, don't forget red flags how ever you haul it.

Be realistic. How much "swimming" can you do in 10 inches of water. That will barely cover your legs when you sit in it. Your daughter will think you are the biggest cheapskate in town, And I would agree with her.

It will not go vertically through the overpasses, it is wide enough to require an oversize permit.

I would not haul one 340 miles.

Personally, I don't think it is a great idea!
But! If you can cut it and haul it in pieces, yes.
As mentioned, you will need permits to "legally" haul it in one piece!
338 miles is a long way, a lot of things can happen in that distance, most of them bad!
Just my $0.02 worth!

top of my excavator cab is 12' and it was tight going under bridges.it was really about 3-4' clearance but that's not much doing 60 down the highway,we actually stopped and looked at the first bridge just to make sure had to get a permit also.

Would probably need someone with a lowboy to haul it. Probably will need an escort and permits. They hauled large tubines for the electric power plant just over the state line in PA. It took them days to get there. They were brought into the Susquehanna river by barge here in MD. Then they were loaded on lowboys that had about 20 tires or more on them. Hal

There's a man near that power plant in PA that makes fenders for 10-20 McCormick Deering tractors. He may also make them for the 15-30 tractors. I have his name and number somewhere. Hal

The time and money you spend picking up the tank, you can go to walmart and buy one of the inflatable pools. It comes with ladder and filter and all accessories ready to swim, just add water. You can be swimming with your daughter before you get to were the tank is. I know it's nice to recycle and try and save money ,but sometimes it just doesn't work out. My thoughts only.

If it was on a lowboy it would be about 13'6" which would be legal on most highways. There would be exceptions though on US or state highways. All interstaes you would travel would be at least 13'6" you would have to watch for the curve of the bridges on the PA pike.

paul if it is near Louisville ky ,, I want it , if you are passing,,, I hauled a water tank like that in my pikup ,, this one was only 6 or 9 ft across ,, the lady used it for a swimming pool , and we did like wise for the kiddies,,.

If your that set on a stock tank, maybe think about finding one a little smaller and closer to home. Shouldn't be that hard to do. Another thing, how do you know this one is 12'?? Did you measure it yourself. That just sounds awefull wide to me. Are you sure its not maybe 8 or 10' foot wide?

I hauled one about 25 miles in the back of a Pickup, I scoped out the all the low bridges and picked my route in advance. I let the tailgate down and tied it in no problems. Lot so fun sitting in about 2 ft of water on a hot day

Don't let them talk you out of it for a worthless Wal Mart pool. The kids had 2 of them and they both leaked. The two of them did't last one short summer. Not cheap either.

If you have a trailer, put it on there the wide way and you will not have any clearance issues. put flags on it and bring it home on a sunday morning when traffic is light. I have pulled wide farm equipment down the road all the time.

We slide them on the bale bed, throw a ratchet strap on it, and go.
We have several 12-14 footers. Pain in the backside when it's 20 below and you gotta break fork the ice off for the cattle to drink. 10 foot is a good size.

Watch on Craig's list ...people give them away on free stuff ...how do I know?? The kids bugged me almost all summer 2-3 years ago ..I can't be bothered with one .
