OT--Guests?

Am I correct in assuming that ANYONE can start a Subject, or respond to a post without registering?
I have never responded to a "guest post". To me, it's like they want to post in secrecy? I registered many years ago and never gave it a second thought.

Imagine that. Curious way to treat a guest. Seriously though, maybe they just need a quick answer to something and don't have time to sit around on forums looking for the devil where he doesn't exist. Are we talking about a specific guest post that was offensive?

Think about it this way. Maybe a person isn't sure they like forums. So they are guests for a while, then maybe they register, after a while maybe they buy a few manuals or parts...mission accomplished! It's a commercial site, not a private lodge meeting.

I too have been a "guest" for many years. I have been registered but then computer probs lose me so I just stay a guest.

I am not picking out anyone, certainly don't want to offend anyone but I am a member of MANY forums and I am registered in all of them. Many would not allow posting without registering, I just thought all forums required registering for their own reasons.
I guess I will have to reconsider responding as I was not aware that many guests have a Long history with this site.

you just said whut you feel an thats whut the guests do so if they get mad about it then they can wear the same shoes to get glad in

Sometimes this site makes me a guest and other times it signs me in automatically. Sometimes my name pops in the box and other I have to type it ,sometimes I have to type it right after it just popped up. I posted on the moderators board and re gave my email but it still does it. I don't really notice who is signed in and who is a guest myself.

I will add that if I post sometimes it will say "ERROR" and not allow me to post, but it is rare that I have a serious post anyway.

When you register a handle, ytmag creates a cookie on your PC. If you use a different PC or your cookies get deleted, you'll have to log in again.

The only thing your registering for is to
hold/reserve your username. If you log out, or
clear your history and cookies, youll have to log
in with your username and password, but if you
make up a new name, it will let you post if noone
else is using that name, or hasnt registered in
that name before. When you hit Submit or whatever
it says, if youre not logged in, it will ask for a
password. Most of the sites I go to, you have to
register and get approval from the moderator or
owner of the board before they will let you post.
No way to do it anonymously.

So often it makes a difference where someone is "coming from", literally, and figuratively, the one thing I like about modern view is you can register and include as much information as you want.

That's what I was referring to. I just thought it was a security feature to help prevent advertising or scams and such. Not to suggest that it has been done on this site.
While searching, I have went to sites where you have to register for anything offered. Even to go to a posted link or to view a photo.

Okay that explains it. I know you know alot about computers. I have other questions too . I don't want to hijack this post. Thanks

I was here pretty early on, maybe in the first 3 or 4 hundred people. I had bought and sold tractors on the auction this site used to have, and I liked it. It seems like each time I would have some computer problem this site would not let me back in. When we were first asked to register I was using Wildbill for a handle and someone registered it before I could, since then mainly just flew as a guest. I did register "the Unforgiven" but now my password won't go so I just dropped "the" and continued. Probably been through a dozen handles.

Quite a few years ago you didn't need to register on several farm forums. The nasties changed that policy. Personally I prefer to restrict my Email address because it limits the spam. Should make several Email addresses so I can register and if desired just ignore Email going to that addess. Several friends do this but I've never became that sophisticated/internet savvy. Regardless when you post your internet access/computer IP is attached so anyone really interested in indentifying you do a trace.

I was on here pretty early also. I was Easy, Easyirv, and a couple others. I lost the handles I think because I got sideways with a couple of other folks here. I hadn't registered the name, tried to post, and found that the name was reserved. :) This place is a lot calmer than it used to be, politics really got this place screwed up.

I first registered many years ago, but for some reason it shows 2008. Same username and same password, as far as I can remember.

OFF TOPIC QUESTION - How do you get portions of
your post to print in the "Bold" format on this
site?

Sorry Guys, I'm not trying to hijack the thread,
just trying to learn how to do something.

Doc

Dunno how they can do it but if they want to they can somehow have your internet provider block your attempts to post on YT no matter how many handles you have guest are not... I would have to go the trouble of going elsewhere to post if they went that far...

One other note, if you happen to make a typo when typing
your name in on classic view, it will post as a guest.
May be a long time user with fat fingers.

I can do that in any web site I am in. I just left click and drag across, it turns blue and I then go to top [b:d290124d9b]"B"[/b:d290124d9b] and click.
I have never given it a second thought.
After I posted this, I wife told me it was probably because I have [b:d290124d9b]WORD[/b:d290124d9b] software

Jiles, it has nothing to do with MS Word. It's a feature of Modern view.

But you can do the same thing in Classic using html tags.

[b:654c4848f0]You can make your text bold.[/b:654c4848f0]
[i:654c4848f0]You can make your text italic.[/i:654c4848f0]
[b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]You can make your text bold italic.[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0]
[u:654c4848f0]You can underline your text.[/u:654c4848f0]
You can even use superscript and subscript text.

And you can insert links like this:
