Hmmmm. What Did I Get??

Well, we went to this guys place today, it wasn't nearly as elaborate as my buddy had described it to be.... He turned out to be a really nice guy, and parts of his family had already come through and put their name on what they wanted, so we just kind of got the scraps.

There were a few nice things, but for the most part, everything was pretty well beat up.... Here is a list of what we bought, and what we paid for them (estimated weight x scrap):

BushHog Back Blade, 5 foot + snow extensions, $22.50
Old style, pull with a trailer bale loader, $45.00
8 foot Johnson drop spreader, rough, $30.00
Ford 501, in almost field ready condtiton (blue) $22.50
IH T6 Crawler + Blade, runs really nice, great shape, $750.00
2x IH 46 Balers, one pto, on engine, both nice, $225.00 a piece
IH Power unit, just an old engine, about 30 horse, $22.50
IH Swather, rubber on steel, NICE, $375.00
2x Hay elevators (for barns, etc.) $45.00
Oliver hay rake on rubber, NICE, $45.00
JD 4-bottom plow, on steel, SUPER NICE, $90.00
4x 4foot spring tooth sections, $45.00
Self Propelled NH Bale wagon, three wide, O K, $1500 (set price, not scrap)
Three point, 2 bottom case plow, $75.00
6 foot tow behind case seed drill, working, $97.50
Bob Cat mounted Back Hoe, $150.00
Case VAC, Wide front (destroyed), not running, $262.50

All in all not too bad huh? I paid myself off for the Bush Hog blade, looked to be in really nice shape... I really wanted the seeder, but I now have borrowing rights. :) I might buy both of the balers from my buddy, and the put both together to get a good one, sell it, and then part the other! I'll get a few pictures of the blade for you guys when I get it home! Bryce

Bryce,

I use a Ford 501 sickle bar mower on my Ford 2000 tractor to cut 30 acres of grass hay twice or three times each year.

It's slow and it plugs sometimes, but it's what I have and it's what I use.

A junked-out, beat-up, rusted, nasty one sells for about $250.00 around here in Middle Tennessee. A good, field-ready mower would sell for close to $500.00.

You got a REALLY good deal on that mower.

Same thoughts here Tom, I mow almost as much.

Scrap price would be doubled on most of that stuff here.

Bryce! you made out like a bandit on most of the stuff. I was down at the spring consignment auction at Chehalis 2 Saturdays ago, and bought a Ford 501, 5 ft bar, with 2 extra sickles, red one, for $300, and felt like I got a deal, it is field ready, but needs a swath board.

That right there - what a deal! I'm guessing you are out west not east.

The ONLY thing I got on that list was the Bush Hog blade, my buddy bought EVERYTHING for the scrap price (that way there was only one person paying the owner for everything), and then at lunch, him, two other friends, and I squabbled over what we wanted. I am hurting for cash, but I liked the looks of that blade! I actually have two Ford 501's both are in perfect field ready condition, and both were free, so I think that is a good deal! On of the guys has a tree farm, and really wanted the mower and the Case plow. Then the second guy wanted the Oliver hay rake, and Case VAC. And then my buddy Steve took what he wanted, and is just going to find buyers for the rest of the stuff!

I am not all that pleased with the performance of the 501, so this year I am going to try my JD No. 5 on the back of my Super C (which is all hooked up except for hydrolic cylinder) and see how it does.

I also added on of those section and a half pieces on the end of my 501 sickle mower AFTER I mowed last year, so people have been telling me that it will work a little better! Bryce
