Any Shibaura engine experts?

Friend had a New Holland skid steer with bad engine. Due to finances found an engine from salvage yard. Both were Shibaura made but the replacement was from a different application. Had to switch oil pan and pickup tube, some fittings on water pump and injection pump linkage. Started right up but problem is we can't get enough rpm out of the engine. There are two adjusters on the pump but can' find anything on how to adjust them. Any one have experienced with these?

Have heard they might be copies or very similar to Perkins engines. Thomas made skid steers for Ford that had Shibaura engines. I think one of the Thomas mechanics said they got parts from Perkins to fix a Ford they took in trade. Wouldn't be good if the Ford branded loaders had Kubota engines like the Thomas used. If you knew what kind of injection pump it had, then the diesel experts can probably help you.

what model skidsteer? I worked for ford new Holland as a tech in the 90s. My dad sold ford and new Holland for 38 years.

Kubota made the engines in the mid era skidsteers. need to know year and model .

if it is not revving, first thing to consider is a restriction, but need to know more from you

You may have a governor problem not just a pump problem. You can buy the service manual through new holland. Part #6-80020NA. $23.00. Might be worth it. What shape is the core in? Does he want to sell it? Email is open

Engine probably has a PFR style injection pump that uses the engine built in governor. One screw would be the max fuel setting and the other is the high speed setting screw. A picture of both might help to tell them apart.

Kubota I don't believe ever supplied engines for NH skid loaders. The ancients used a Perkins branded engine of which origin I'm not certain. Mabey it was of Kubota origin. I don't know. Once you got into the LX/LS/L series machines the engines were supplied by Ford/NewHolland, either through ISM for the small ones or BSD/Iveco engines in the larger models depending on time frame.

Normally the high idle of the engine is simply adjusted by the stops on the external throttle linkage. You'll probably find a screw with a wire through it and a seal... and the purpose of that screw is to limit the maximum travel of the throttle lever on the pump. The maximum delivery screw is probably hidden behind a cap or is at least on the rear of the pump kind of out of sight. I'm not really sure on that Kiki. Regardless, what you're looking for will act against the throttle lever as a stop. Both idle and high idle are set in that manner using two different screw stops.
The other possibility is that the governor is not set up for medium high speed operation and mabey it's limited to 2600 rpm or where ever it's stopping on you... That is a possibility. I think that would require a change in the governor springs to alter the speed

You are right about the two screws for settings. Can't find on line about setting max fuel setting. Can you advise?
