Winter wheat crop

Winter wheat price has been going up pretty good lately. I was just wondering what the crop looks like in your area. We are in western South Dakota and i believe ours will be ok. Most of it looked really good last fall, and it has been snow covered for most of the winter. I know we don't raise enough here to make a difference in the price. Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma determine the price much, much more. How is the wheat doing there? Is it going to make it through the winter? How about moisture?

I am in the southern NE panhandle and northeast Colorado. Was very dry last year until in Sept. We than got 5-6 in. about 4 hrs. Had to redrill most wheat finished the first wk. in OCT. Turned cold and hardly come up.(some neighbors didn"t come up and there wheat looks very spotty). Went and looked it over yesterday and all looks good. We never got a lot of snow but it came several times at about 4 in at a time so right now fairly good moisture, always need more. Pictures are right after the 5-6 in. of rain.

NE KS. It isn't pretty. We had a toad strangler when it was just planted. Lots of it rotted. Neighbor had the adjuster out yesterday. He said there is still some germanation there. It will likely make 40-45. Sad since last year lots of fields were on the high side of 70 - something lots of older guys had not seen. I'm not feeling too optimistic. I'm hoping to feel the love with some milo if these fields don't do something soon.

40-45 Sad?? In my country if I make 40-45 I think I am in seventh Heaven. our county ave. is 35. Parts of our county up north of me they raise 40-50 all the time. Better ground and better rains. With no till they are raising more per ac. but it comes at a cost. They have more dollars in so they have to get more dollars out. Bottom line for me is when all the bills are paid, how much is profit.

South central NE, and mine looks terrible, never did look real good last fall, even got a small rain the night after it was planted. Very little snow cover.

Talked to my brother in south central SD yesterday....said it is too early to tell but he has got his fingers crossed....

Winter came hard and early last year, some neighbors barely had seed in the ground when it froze. And it pretty much stayed frozen. Mine is a little spotty in the low spots, and looks thin. It looked similar last year and still did 85bu/A. I am planting after shelling corn so a warm fall really helps.

Mine was under 1-1/2' of snow when I left, probably under that much water now. I'll let you know what I think when I see it in a couple of weeks.

10 mi. sw of Sidney on HWY 19 in a little town called Lorenzo. Farm is three mi. south on the NE-CO border. Did you go to Big Spring Imp.? The guy that owns it was married to my wifes cousin. I believe he and his son run it.
