20s here today, snow gone, ground still frozen.

We got the planters broken out of the ice and pulled up by the shop so we can start getting things ready.

Slow down there a little David.

Just 15 miles south of you we got a inch or more of snow last night.

Ground is still white.

I am expecting it to get real soft where planters were, so pulled them up while it is frozen this weekend, so a little ulterior motive.

I am thinking the "official" start of planting here should be April 12.

I would rather be sitting ready than hustling.

That D on steel is going to be the ticket this year- use the lugs to break up the permafrost to get some seed in.

I need one for planting my onions....a self-propelled dibble!

Going to need ran and thunder to get all the frost out and it had better strt if you are going to start in 4 weeks. Ive spent most of my 78yrs here in eastern IA and some things just dont change as theres tons of frost water pipes are still froze on some farms just heard of one south of Kalona Farmer has 150 head of cattle and local well service couldnt get them dug up friday too much frost.

Gene,

I would agree, we will need warm weather and a couple of inches of rain to get all the frost out.

We were waiting for the official start date a couple of years ago because winter was so mild. I do not expect the same thing this year. I hope we get in by the end of April

I would LIKE to start planting in a month here in my part of NW Iowa but if we don't start getting warmer weather soon the soil will be too cold. We haven't hardly had any snow this winter, maybe 12"-16" total that came in small amounts, then melted away soon after it came down. Very few puddles out there, but deep frost. If it doesn't start raining soon the fields will be dry enough to work before the frost goes out but the soil will be too cold. I have to seed some waterways soon as I can, but they can be seeded cold. Jim
