Going through 2013 spraying costs items, want to look at what I am paying compared to others. Would any one want to share what your cost per acre's are? I do Round up ready corn and beans as well as conventional corn. Never got a chance to really look at the invoice from the conv corn and it came in at $98/acre. All my spraying is custom service from the co op. I am also looking at doing the spraying myself in the new future so please share costs wether you hire it our or do it your self. My son is also using this issue for a school project so I can get him some data as well.

Wow $98

I spray my own which saves me the cost of two trips by a custom sprayer. It would cost about $7 an acre for each of the two trips.

I spend around $40 for chemicals and additives per acre.

First trip is pre emerge with a 3/4 rate of a Keystone a pint of 24d and maybe Durango if needed for grass burn. Cost of $23 an acre if all are used.

Second trip is 30 to 40 oz of Durango (glysophate) , a quart of atrazine and additives needed. Cost around $16 an acre.

I"d be checking prices or rates per acre if I were you.

You sure that $98 price doesn"t include some liquid fertilizers or something?

Conventional may cost me about $10 more than RR corn but not $98 per acre.

Forgot about the beans.

First pass of Sonic is about $15 an acre on tilled.

Second pass about $14 for Glysophate and additives.

My notil beans take about $10 an acre more than tilled beans when Glysophate is added for burn down.

So $25 to $40 an acre for beans.

This was the bill for a 23 acre piece that had convand had grass's and broadleafs fairly heavy

gross amt type unit price total
68.992ozs Laudis $5.94 409.81
57.5oz Status $4.00 230
2.875 gal Class Act NG $13.57 39.01
27.6gal Destiny $49.29 1360.4
.539 gal Interlock $66.88 36.05
23 Cstm spray $7.50 172.5
MN sales 4.16
Enviro charge 7.26

Here are the figures for a couple of my fields from the 2013 spreadsheets. This is the per acre cost of chemical in bulk totes. The Optima and Selectmax were in 2 1/2 gallon jugs. This year I might throw in Calisto in the corn herbicide mix for better grass control. We'll see what the weather does.

CORN
Tripleflex-------------15.50
Optima-----------------2.16
Roundup Wmax-------6.12
TOTAL-----------------23.78

BEANS
Glyphosate-------------8.50
Optima------------------2.16
Selectmax (Optional)--5.16
Roundup Wmax--------7.25
TOTAL------------------23.07

I use my own sprayer but I charge the spreadsheet the custom spray rate. I don't know if I do it any cheaper after figuring in $30,000 for the sprayer purchase, upkeep and tractor expense but I get it done when I want and I know my fields. (editorial comment) Jim

Generic "Prowl" (I think it was called Acumen) and atrazine on the corn,$14.50 an acre. Spot sprayed a little bit of glyphosate here and there to clean up.

I don't spray my self, so I know next to nothing
about this, but Round Up Weathermax is cheaper than
generic glyphosate?

no till beans: 3oz valar xlt at 13.00 , buckenere at 1 pint 1.75 , 1 pint 2,4,D at3.00. so its 17.75 per ac applied with my sprayer.8.00 an ac app fee a round here so i do it myself, i also spread my own fert. then right befor canapy 24 oz of buckenere. should be good to go!

no till; 2 trips over @ $6 a trip....generic roundup is less per pass then application. corn, beans and whest rotation. spray 24D in the fall on ground going to beans the following year. again $6 app plus $1A for 24D. wheat gets sprayed in the spring, sometimes, and roundup in late fall to kill volunteer wheat. 12 way mix covercrop planted after wheat.

On tilled ground, Corn, A Quart of Glyphosphate @$2.25, and an 1.25 ounces of Resolve Q @ $8.87. One pass with the sprayer about 4 Weeks after planting.

I am like you Gary when I saw that $ 98.00 figure I thought things sure must be higher up North. Think my figures are pretty close to yours.

$98 per acre is nutz! Do you order that mix, or just let them decide what to use? Half dozen herbicides in a mix? Their per acre application cost is ok, maybe a bit high, but....the herb mix cost is nutz. You gotta decide the mix! BTW- just now going thru 2013 costs? for taxes? already post-due.

IIRC, it was Bayer. Had to buy drums off season to get that price 2 years ago. In 2.5 gals this year it was $12-15, which I bought some to finish up.

I much prefer the smaller packaging for handling purposes.

Prices change. $9 is what the bulk of it cost me because I had the foresight to make a purchase when it felt right. A 5G box at $12, and a box at $15 average(which was actually used on Beans, so not sure if it should even count) into 60 gallons doesn't change the cost a significant amount.

Pennies saved, add up. Just like seed and fertilizer, there are significant savings to be had by shopping for your chemicals.

I think you have a mistake on the Destiny. We sell it for 29.97/gal. The rate range is 3/4 to 2 pt /ac price range would be from 2.81 to 7.49/ac.

Roundup on beans one pass $18/acre custom sprayed by the co-op. That's the all-in price including custom spraying ($9.50) and Roundup.
