The fence builder came today and built the cow lane between the old and new barns, so this evening after the cows were milked in the stanchions they were shuttled over to the new barn for feeding and sleeping. It sure made feeding time a breeze! Will be a week or two until the parlor is ready, will post pics of it up and running.

The only thing is you build such a nice place with love in your heart and all they do is POOP all over the place! Jeffcat

What is the point of the area in the middle? Looks like a place a feeder could have gone? Just curious...

Should be interesting to see how the cows work out who goes where. The cows at the dairy where I used to work would go to the same place each day. Each one had their own specific "parking space" and it never varied. The bell cow would come in first, go to her spot and the rest would follow to their spots.

That brings back memories. When I was young and we had cows they'd crowd around the door at milking time, same cow or cows always had to be first and they all knew their place at which stantion. In a big new barn they must be confused for a while.

Nice looking setup. Just a few questions. How is the feed going to be pushed up to the cows after they eat what they can and push away the rest of it.
I have looked at a few side by side parlors and it amazes me how the cows come in turn and wait to be milked. They seem very comfortable and content for the time they are in the parlor. Wonder how long it will take for them to get used to it. Please post back, we would interested.

Looking Good! New barns are exciting to get into. You think feeding is easy, just think no more gutter to clean either.

Good looking. How many cows is it for and how many beds are there? I mean can all the cows lie down at the same time?

Looking good, Health to enjoy! I was working for this farm yesterday, hauling cow muck, Our cows feed out of precast troughs to save pushing the feed in to them, might be worth thinking about later on?

May save some time now not pushing feed up, but when it gets hot out and spoils, they"d make for a lot more shoveling.

We had a old tire mounted on an arm that went on the skidsteer. It layed flat, and spun, pushing the feed in as you drove through the barn.

Looks good. I hope those were freestall cows at one time tho... there's nothing worse that trying to train an old tiestall cow to eat through a locking head gate and lie in the stall and not the alley... Alley scrapers might help with that.

About 75 cows with 108 freestalls. They are used to freestalls being switched between them and the stanchions. A plow for the 4-wheeler is planned to push the feed in.

Nice set up. The only thing missing is the smell. Keep in mind I grew up on a dairy. We milked, pastorized, bottled and delivered. Yea, back in the day glass bottles, cream in the top.

What are you going to use to clean the floor?

We had a set up to push everything off the into a spreader below.
