My brother just bought a case 730 comfort king gas. Does anyone know why transmission fluid would be coming out of the starter? Thanks

It is because the tranny input shaft seal is shot and the drain hole on the bottom of the bell housing got plugged up. It is supposed to have a cotter pin rattling around in the hole to keep it from plugging.

Could be what they call "Wet Starter" The old 580's had that. And it told three tries to get the correct one from Case. If it has been leaking from the start of the new starter?????

Never heard of a cotter pin in the drain hole and we have a bunch of those tractors. IF it is Caseomatic and IF the starter seal was replaced, someone did a pizz poor job. Also need a good gasket between starter and the bell housing. Could have a starter from a dry clutch tractor and it will leak.

Funny you ask. It did not leak at all until starter was rebuilt. We even brought it back to him and had it checked again. He said all the seals were good. It's not leaking at the bell housing it's coming from starter itself. He said it was a wet clutch and seals need to be good but it's leaking.

Wet clutch on a 730? First I have ever heard of one. Must be a Case-o-matic torque converter drive. My dual range 8 speed standard is a dry clutch. Never leaked from the starter in 50 years.
