To plow or disc?

Depends on your soil. If it's not heavy clay, I'd let it dry out and disc. Most garden seeds don't need to be planted deep.

Wait until it dries (won't be as long as you think) and disc it. Don't try to get on it too soon. Be patient. It only takes a day or two, but it will actually dry rather quick. When it is dried, it should work up very nicely.

If you have a small spring toothed harrow or field cultivator, use it instead of the disk in the spring. The ravages of winter has mellowed the soil so all you need to do is level it. If all you have is the disk, go to it with the disk. Jim

why would you want too? once its plowed the idea is for the plowed under material to rot and become fertilizer.
disc when dry and then you could rototill it just before planting to give it a nice soft seed bed.

I"ve never seen a professional farmer plow twice without a crop in between. BTW- a disc packs the soil way more than a field cultivator, which loosens it. Discs are good for cutting sod after plowing it. Either way, don"t work it wet in the Spring, especially if it"s clay soil. Then you"re planting in bricks.

(quoted from post at 17:45:02 03/13/14) I plowed my garden last fall. Would you plow it again this spring or just disc it. Thanks , Ellis
I plow my manure under in the fall, then run my rototiller thru before planting, sometimes I rip with a chisel plow in between just to break up any hardpan. I have a 5 foot tiller for when it is a bit wet

and an 8' tiller with packer for later crops when it is drier.

If you dont have a field cultavator use regular cultivator dad had one of those springs and gap in planting had cultivator on and small patch to plant kinda odd but worked one field then cultivated the next .he also did blind cultivating now thats fun
