We use Diatomaceous powder. It works on spiders also but water-rain will disolve it and you have to repeat. It works!
 
Best thing that I've found is RAID Ant & Roach Killer - Kills On Contact.

You boys need to bring your remedies to the Gulf states. You can become millionaires if the fire ants don't laugh you out of the country first.
 
If they had not outlawed Myrex you wouldn't have the big problems with those critters. Half a teaspoon of Myrex will take care of the mound in a day.

I know it is considered a enviromental problem but, there was no need to spread it by airplane as they used to do.

When I lived down by Gulfport a neighbor was moving and gave me a 100 pound bag of the stuff. We never had a problem with "fire ants". Had a friend in Texas who had a problem with them and I gave him a pint jar full, he couldn't believe how fast he cleaned up his yard.
 
Best stuff I've seen for any kind of ants, and yes, it does work on fire ants, is called Advion. It's available to lawn care guys, exterminators, etc, so you'll need someone to get it for you. Beyond that I've used it several times, after having a buddy get me some, in several different places, and it KILLS THEM DEAD.... Sprinkle some of it where you can watch and you'll see the little critters literally fight over the pieces. Both my buddy, and a lady at an exterminating company both made the same statement to me...the stuff is "like crack cocaine" to ants.....and believe me, it is......

o not use it anywhere that bees will be attracted, such as flowering plants, etc. It kills honeybees faster than it does ants.
