John Deere 594 Rake

Hi all,

As many of you know I have this John Deere 594 Rake, (I think). I would like to confirm that all of you guys think that it is for sure a JD 594. I have seen some pictures of them online, and I have asked about this before, but I am 15, so explain it 5 or 6 more times and maybe I will remember!!! :)

Also, is there any way to find a year for one of these? I don't have any manuals for it, and I was wondering if I were to get some numbers off of it if one of you guys that does have a manual for it might be able to look it up? Or is this more of just kind of by looks? I am wondering if it is king of like my JD No.5 Mowers:

Oh, it has a jack so thats 39-45
But wait, it has this ______ so that means that it has to be from 43-45.
So therefore you just kind of guess, which would be fine with me, but I would like an approximate guess at best if I could!

Also, if I was to buy books and do this myself, can I get by with just the operators, or do I need to come up with a parts one too? Ebay has operators for about $10, sounds like a deal to me!

Any information would be GREAT!!! Thanks all, Bryce

thats a 594 rake, its one of the older models. I have a later model that has rubber tires my dad bought in the middle 50's. I've got the operators manual om-e7-352that shows the steel wheeled version.

Oh ya, it is a great rake. I don't have a lot of time in using this one, or any rake, but the little I did use it last year, it worked really good! I will be using it a lot this year, 3 acres of hay, and about 1/2 acre of wheat straw.

So it's an older one? What is older late 30's? Thanks! Bryce

Couldn't make the link work, however I am also having internet issues, anyone else get through? Bryce

P.S. The URL looked like it was just going to take me to a John Deere site, so I am working on looking through their archives.

I had a rake similar to that but I sold it to the Amish I while ago. If it every quits snowing I'll have a look for the manual out in my old shop. You'd be welcome to have it if it's something you could use.

That would be awesome! I would be more than happy to pay you a few bucks + shipping! I have been trying to collect manuals for everthing that I own, or at least use.

Dad was given a grain grinder for his hit n miss's. I think that the guy told me it is a Letz? I haven't ever heard of it, so I think maybe I didn't understand him on the phone and he said Deutz? Not sure?? Either way, when I get it I am going to try to find a manual for it, then restore it and surprise him with it for fathers day!! I thought that the 6 hp Z dad has would be a good match for it! Bryce

Hi Bryce I do have a ORIGINAL parts manual for this 594 Side delivery rake that I would sell to you for a very low price . I have all the parts manuals for sale from my dad that had a John Deere dealership betweewn 1948 and 1958 year he died . On the front page of the manual it says that this rake was manufactured (1934- ). My e mail is [email protected]

AWESOME!! Thank you so much, that is exactly what I needed! I downloaded/saved it and am going to try to use it to determine the year of the rake. I already got it pretty close, because it had different years on the drawbar that was on the rake. Mine was an exact match to the older style 36-40, I think! Anyway, thanks again, that is great! Bryce

I sure think so! I wanted to use my McCormick Deering No. 5 rake, it is the same size, but when I look at the side by side in the meadow, I think that the McDeering raises/lowers better, and has a little better setup for the tail wheels. HOWEVER, on the negative side, it has four rotted off tires and this rake has steel wheels! Being that I am 15 and broke, I went with the JD!! :)

I am VERY excited to get to have my own little miniature farm this year. Around the house I will have about 1/2 acre of wheat, and then I have two more meadows that I am going to take the hay off of for bedding for the chickens. (1 1/2 and 1/2 acre) All in all, provided I don't $%^& something up, it is going to be a GREAT year! Bryce
