Well when its in the family and to keep it in the family more than likely you will get a pretty good deal on it.

Tractor house has them from 4K to 11K, I would go there, find one that looks in similar shape and use that price.

Wellllll, you could do like the guys on American picker. First offer what you would LIKE to pay and he should offer what HE would like to get. The rest is jiggle the price till you both get to a middle. The trouble , it can be reasonable or one of you is WAY OFF. Let us know. Jeffcat

Do you have a local independent dealer? Do you have a local person you both trust. If so ask them. If not good luck.

Well you want to be fair but he's afraid to price it as you might make some stupid high offer. Offer wholesale price and let him speak.

If you don't know ask him what he gave your dad for it.If you know offer that he should be willing to sell it to you for that + any majior repairs or - an major problems it now has.

A friend of mine had a truck he wanted to sell, was not getting the $6,000.00 asking price. He put it up for sale again and did not put a price on it and asked for offers. A guy came out and wanted to buy it and asked approximately how much he wanted for it. Seller would not say, and asked for an offer.
The buyer thought for awhile and said would you take $12,000.00 for it. The seller paused for awhile then said, I suppose I could let it go for that. Be careful on offers he wants to get everything you are willing to pay. After the sale he can always say, I did not charge you too much, that is what you offered me.
Offer him 1/2 of what you think it is worth, or offer him what he paid for it, so it can be kept in the family. Good luck
