I have a Case 930 1961 model with a hand clutch 6 speed. I am unable to shift gears without stopping the engine(gears will grind) I think the clutch is in need of adjustment. The tractor"s clutch engages fine. My question is how hard is it to adjust the clutch and even more important am I on the correct path or could it be some other problem?

first of all you need to make sure the clutch brake is doing its job of stopping the input shaft.
and do you have about 75 lbs of force to engage the hand clutch.
is the clutch slipping under load?
the clutch adjustment is done behind the flywheel.

Here's some scans from the owner's manual for my 1960 930:

The trouble with a 61 model is they did not put the pulley brake on them. I run mine for 19 years and I always had to grind the gears to engage them . Never seemed to hurt the tran. Maybe you could go to a salvage yard and get the brake pulley from a later model 930.

You're right about that, Jimmie. My 1960 doesn't have the brake even though it's pictured in the owner's manual. Maybe it was an option on the early ones, first one I seen with the brake was a very early 930 Comfort King which, according to the serial number, was pegged as a very late 1962 model.
