Hi all,
Does anyone have trouble with on line purchases?
I ordered a clutch package for a Dodge van. From a company in NJ namely PARTSGEEK.com. First they wouldn"t take a Canadian credit card and wanted a Postal money order which I sent on Feb 4th. They keep telling me I have to wait for it to clear at their bank. It"s over a month now. You can"t phone them, only email. Is there someone from NJ that knows about this co? I"m thinking I"ve been taken. Thanks for help. Ed Will

Hopefully this is correct contact info.

Phone: (800) 541-9352
Fax: (856) 988-9403
50 S Maple Ave Suite 100, Marlton, NJ 08053

I googled Parts Geek... and clicked on a Better Business Bureau link (though it says they are not an accredited by the BBB - it did provide contact information). Hope this helps.

Yep... info is correct. I just went to partsgeek site and if you click on their Customer Service tab at the top of the webpage - it provides address and phone number.

1-800-541-9352. I see they have ads in Hemmings. Appears to be a big company but as a general rule : Never trust anyone from New Jersey.

Chuck, as a former resident of NJ, born and raise till 16 there, yup, not to be trusted. My parents got me out of there before I was tainted!

Rick
So you are saying we are all tainted, and can't be trusted. wow, Chuck

Credit cards from certain countries have a much higher rate of fraudulent use.

For those countries, you unfortunately have to wait till the bill is paid to ensure you're going to be paid, so you can then ship the product.

Canada's not on the high risk list - but some retailers group all countries outside of the us as high-risk, especially if 99% of their business is in the US. Worrying about losing one or two customers isn't enough of a concern to make it worth re-programming and micromanaging what countries you do and don't have to put a hold on.

not sure if that's the case here, but wouldn't be surprised.

Remember, a lot of online sales are just an add on to an existing business. Not all have a big enough budget for thorough international programming. So don't take it personally.

sorry - just caught that it's taken over a month! I thought you were complaining about not taking your credit card.

We have bought a lot online without a problem till the last purchase from Amazon. Someone there switched the bill to with the send to and sent us the book we wanted sent to our niece in Iowa. They were very unhelpful at solving the problem. We had to pay postage to Iowa to get it there. They wanted us to ship it back to them.

I do a lot of shoppig from ebay or amazon and use pay-pal. Haven't really had a bad experience. I did order a dewalt grease gun in Nov of last year, just got it, out of stock. Seller kept in touch, didn't charge until it was shipped.

How well/fast does customs work, going north, for you guys? Could that be part of the issue?

ALL sorts of horror stories here on the south side of the 49TH parallel of merchandise spending FAR more time waiting to clear customs than the timing shipping takes.

What's the deal with auto parts up there in the Great White North... I know a guy who works at an auto parts store just a few miles on the US side of MB, and they do a BOOMING business selling to your countrymen, who can apparently save quite a few Loonies buy crossing the border and buying down here... is it a tax thing, or what?

When we ship things to son in Australia, it only takes a few days to be delivered to his house. When we ship things to daughter in Canada, it takes at least a month (sometimes longer) before it is delivered to her house.

It doesn't seem to make any difference if we ship the package or Amazon ships it to them.

Thank you very much for this great article and information. It is very useful to me, please provide more information or a good article like this again.
