I think cow has pneumonia

cow has shallow, fast breaths and holds its head low. It is loosing weight. I gave it some LA-200.
I have been told it will have permanent lung damage and will never do well if it lives. I would like to know what others have experienced.

It depends how bad it is how long it lasts. If it doesn't turn around quick try some draxxin or another of the new long lasting antibiotics.

I was in charge of rasing the calfs on the dairy farm. When calf breath, pneumonia sounds like air bubbling through water.

I even told a person they had pneumonia. Person went to the Dr., sure enough pneumonia. I sent the person a bill, never got paid.

There are good meds out there for pneumonia but you'll have to get with a vet to get them. IIRC Nuflor is one of them. They're all expensive. Pen G and LA200 are not too effective compared to them.

At the first indication there was something wrong did you take her temp? 101.5 is normal for a cow. Upon first contracting an infection, the cow will show an elevated temp. If she is really sick she'll show a below normal temp becuase the body has stopped fighting the infection. Get a vet NOW. As you stated if that cow isn't treated quickly she will be worthless if she survives.

Had a severe recurring case of pnuemonia in my late 20's. Darn near killed me. Took nearly ten years to recover and have spent my life with scar tissue in my right lung. Quick treatment is the key to having a cow recover and return to normal.
